If he makes you walk the plank, I'll walk it with you.
If I have to walk the plank, he's going to disappear.
You don't walk the plank in NJ. You just disappear. Forever.

I still think he should consider keelhauling. That was a pretty awful punishment too. :-o

I put a question up on the Basketball board here about Dahntay Jones. I don't know how many people check that board this time of year, so I thought I'd throw it on here to get some people to answer it for me.

Thanks.

Hilarious, Sue. Flippin' hilarious. Although I suppose I asked for it with my recent confession re: New Jersey. And yes, bjornolf, this might be an offense worthy of keelhauling.

Pineapples don't grow on trees...more like big networks of vines in a field. It's not an especially photogenic array.

And that would explain why I didn't see any. I did pass by the Dole plantation. But, now that I know more about a Hawaiian Dole, I'm glad I didn't stop. It was a Dole that was somewhat instrumental in over throwing the monarchy, and he became president of the the republic of Hawaii.

If someone offered me a cup to try (for free) I'd try it. Knowing how much catshit coffee costs, I'd have to taste it just for the experience.

Yep, and he established literally almost the entire island of Lanai as one big pineapple plantation. James Dole operated the pineapple business, and Sanford Dole became the first president of the "Republic of Hawaii," after Grover Cleveland and the Congressional Democrats rejected his petition for the United State to annex the islands.

More pleasant pineapple factoid:
The pineapple is today considered a symbol of hospitality (hence its inclusion on, for instance, the Williams-Sonoma kitchen store logo). This stems from the Age of Sail (roughly understood as the late 16th century until the early 19th century). In those days, there were of course no supermarkets, and long-distance shipping, especially of perishables, was difficult and expensive. This especially held for a fruit like the pineapple, which grew only in especially far-flung locales. Only on a very long voyage could a pineapple be acquired, and there was no regular traffic in the fruit to speak of.
Seamen returning from a voyage to, say, southern South America (to which today's familiar pineapple is native) would frequently bring back a pineapple, because aside from its deliciousness, it has that wild, exotic look to it. For the first few days upon his return from such a voyage (which would last several months at the least, or years if it was, say, a whaling voyage), the sailor would more or less keep to the house, catching up and celebrating with his family (and presumably sleeping in the most comfortable bed he had seen in some time!). When the sailor and his family were ready to begin receiving guests, they would prominently display a pineapple outside the front door or next to the gate of the home, signifying to friends and neighbors that they were now welcome to come in and visit.

Whenever I see a unc t-shirt/car sticker/license plate/flag/whatever, I mutter "Fuck the tar heels" and give the person displaying it an unnecessarily obvious nasty look. I get at least quizzical/frightened look in response almost every day.
