The cheer that has moved to the top of my list now is : "Inhale, exhale." Not only do I think this is one of the more clever cheers in CIS history, there is an "update" to it. ;)
Who can recount the best/most accurate story/explanation about this cheer?
So, unc player, Steve Hale, had either suffered a rib fracture or pneumonia or something respiratory (can't remember which). When the holes came to Cameron, Hale was instructed to, "Inhale . . . Exhale!" If I remember correctly, Hale wen't on to become Dr. Hale. A pulmonologist perhaps???
This is pretty darn close, IIRC. It could have been a collapsed lung, also. It may have also had to do with his going into or exiting the game. INhale, EXhale...
He did indeed go on to becoming a physician, but a pediatrician. A lung specialist would have been much more fitting.
Now for the most ironic or funniest part.
My daughter, now a Duke cheerleader, is at summer school, at unc (don't ask, it's a strategic move), taking Physics and her roommate for the summer is none other than Steve Hale's daughter, who my wife says is a very nice, sweet young lady.
I am not quite sure how/when I am going to break the news to her about the history and the cheer.
That folks, is the rest of the story.
I need to excuse myself now.

Steve Hale has a daughter in COLLEGE? My gosh, the guy was class of Dawkins, Alarie, Bilas, Williams & Henderson. He has a daughter in COLLEGE? I'm getting old. It flips me out when people who are younger than me have kids who are older than my kids. Steve Hale has a kid in college. I am so old.
That's how my wife and daughter ID'd her. I am not sure if she is a freshman or sophomore, making her 18, but probably 19. Yes, you are getting way old but much more desirable for folks like wilson, colchar, and, of course, clbunchofnumbers.

[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.
