I had a fun day. I had lunch with a friend I haven't seen in awhile. Some of you may remember her husband, he has had the barber shop at Duke for years. Really nice people.

Yippee! Done with court for the week, and justice was served in large doses. Mostly today's escapades were people fighting with their cellmates in the jail, about which the Judge has a zero-tolerance policy.

Re: LTE 2.0
I've just heard some disturbing news.
A friend of the family was recently (2 weeks ago) institutionalized at a local rest home. She suffers from a rare and potentially quickly fatal form of Altzheimer's. Her physical age is about 60 but mentally she is pre-adolescent. She resides in a semi-private room with another lady, condition unknown.
This afternoon, Kathy was paid a visit by the First Mate, who reported upon return, that the roommate was very busy kicking our friend. There are no cameras in the room and very little and lax security. What was being witnessed was an assault and battery with only one witness and a perp, with a halo on, when staff makes an appearance following the complaint.
Our friend doesn't deserve such treatment. Any advice from any of our legal eagles here is welcomed and whole-heartedly appreciated.

Immediately tell the charge nurse when you've witnessed such a scene.captmojo wrote:I've just heard some disturbing news.

Look for bruises and point them out to the staff at the facility. The bruises may take a day or so to appear, but they are physical evidence of the assault.
Don't be afraid to ask the patient in the presence of staff if so-and-so kicked her.
Chances are, the halo-wearing perp doesn't wear that halo all the time, and the staff probably already knows that.
Finally, make plenty of unannounced drop-in visits at random times. If you witness the assault once, chances are, you'll witness it again.

Lost my Kindle in the airport yesterday (accidentally forgot it in the restroom; someone took it) and am thinking about replacing it with an iPad. Anyone have any experience with them?

All of what CathyCA said. Also, call your local Department of Social Services and see if they have an Adult Care unit, or if not, find out what governmental group has oversight of the nursing home, and report the situation to them. There certainly is a failure to supervise the residents, which needs to be reported.
