Let's see if I can make this short. Imafacultydaughter had a routine procedure last June to correct an esophageal problem near her stomach (the organ,not the location). She has had multiple complications since then resulting in more surgeries and hospitalizations than anyone ever wants. She had major surgery St. Patrick's Day and went home Easter weekend, though was readmitted a few weeks later. The recent issues are that there are pockets of infection in her gut that the docs don't seem to know how to resolve. She is on IV antibiotics for several types of infections, and at times has trouble either eating, keeping food down or both (you really can have both). As noted, this has been going on for almost a year now.

In an attempt to convey info, but not too much info I may leave people in the dark, as noted with bjornolf. If I have done so, please let me know so I can clarify. Thanks!

Finally a minute to check over here to see what's going on! And I find all the vibes going as strong as EVER!!!! Thanks, Tilly for accommodating folks with an explanation of what's been dominating my family's life for a year now. Our lives are forever changed...for the worse by this horrible event, and for the better for having discovered the seemingly bottomless compassion of the people on the OTB over at DBR and here in Our House.

Even in the middle of a sleepless night when I'm sometimes feeling the lump in my throat the most, I can come in here, flick on the computer and read your messages. I'm warmed by your "vibes", amused by your antics, amazed at the talents and traits of so many of you and helped to feel part of a bigger, stronger family.

I've given up reading this thread both here and at DBR cause it's just too depressing (too many deaths of young people in our family lately). I just pray for them both every night. Let me know when there's GOOD news.

We all gotta do what we all gotta do. My heart goes out to bjornolf. It's a beautiful day out there, buddy. Hope you can get out there and soak some of it up. Breathe it in moment by moment by moment. Then go kiss the necks of all those cuties in your picture collection.

W ell.....I've been holding off trying to see if things went one direction or the other. We went in today and they removed one tube. That's some degree of liberation. Tomorrow is the last day of this round of infused antibiotics.. That would be a good thing if she weren't running a low grade fever. Drats. We've been this far before. But, the good news this time is that there is no evidence in the scans of further and continuing re-contamination. So if we can just get over this hump and off this round without a fever spiking, we may be all be dancing in the streets.

I can't wait to dance in the streets! I know that day is just around the corner - all the vibes, 9Fs, and prayers being sent and said for Ima Facultydaughter are going to pay off. She is very lucky to have such a great mom!

I posted an update yesterday over on DBR but things are going sort of nicely so I thought I'd let you guys know just in case you haven't checked over there.

The doc appointment yesterday went well. We're in for another four weeks of infusions, but since there's no evidence of re-contamination (so far) we're feeling cautiously optimistic. The truth will come when they finally do take her off the antibiotics.

She's definitely getting stronger these days. We just have to believe that this last round of shin-kickers will win out.

We're up at the lake for a couple of days. The view and the weather are beautiful. It really lifts one's spirits. I spent the afternoon trying to paint hydrangeas in a glass vase on my studio window sill. CB&B needs to tell me how to hang in there as the light and shadows keep traveling.They won't hold still and I just can't paint fast enough!!!! How nice to have that be my biggest problem today!!!! I"m relishing it!
