For the second time in program history, the Duke women's tennis team is in the National Championship match. In 1998, the ladies fell just short of the title, falling to the Flarduh Gators (ewww

). This time, the Blue Devils will take on the Cal Bears. The match is tonight at 7. GoDuke.com will have live video and scoring.

Up 2-0, with leads in 4 other matches. Need 4 points to take the whole shebang. Getting close...

You don't walk the plank in NJ. You just disappear. Forever.

This also gets Duke into double digits in overall, all-time national championships:
1986 men's soccer
1991, 1992, 2001 men's basketball
1999, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007 women's golf
2009 women's tennis
Here's to adding #11 on Monday in Boston!

It'll also boost our Director's Cup ranking. As of April 23 (before lacrosse, tennis, and golf are factored in), we stood at 25th. I'd say we've got a damn good shot to move up significantly. In recent years, we've been by far the smallest school by enrollment in the top 25. I wish I knew a bit more about the scoring, because men's and women's teams in the three sports mentioned above will definitely score us big points; I just don't quite know how it all gets figured. I guess we'll know soon enough.
