1991 - "In the beginning..." (A must see for Duke fans)

In the beginning, there were no national championship banners in Cameron. There was a void. After four failed Final Four trips in '86, '88, '89, and '90, K said, "Let there be victory." There was, and it was good.

All has truly come full circle. For who was coaching the team, Kansas, that Duke beat to claim its first championship? Why none other than our friend 'OL ROY WILLIAMS! (he says "hey" at the 1:39 mark)

Also, Duke had a player on that team that got us off to a solid start in the game, setting the tone for victory. Not Zoubek, but KOUBEK! Watch him nail a three in this video (he hit several big shots early). He also gets smacked in the nuts at the 20-second mark and crumbles to the ground in what must be hell-inspired pain (ouch!).

Finally, this game boasts what may be the best play ever in Duke history, considering the level of difficulty and the three legends (all with jerseys retired) that made it happen. After Koubek's nut shot, LAETTNER grabs the rebound and passes to HURLEY. HURLEY then makes an "off" alley-oop pass to HILL, who uses his incredible leaping and athletic ability to slam the ball through the hoop. When he did that, I remember turning to a friend in Cameron and saying, "Tonight's our night man!"
