Acrylic Nails

Post by TillyGalore » April 9th, 2010, 12:52 pm

For years I've been able to grow nails the way CBB and bunchofnumbers grow vegetables. But, in the last year and a half, my nails won't grow the way they used to.

Has anyone had acrylic nails or gel's?
If so, what has your experience been?
Would you recommend them to a friend or an enemy?
How often did you have to have refills done?

EarlJam, if you don't put something clever in this thread about acrylic or gel nails, I'll be very sad. :(

I have never had them. I grow talons that you can use as screwdrivers. My mother and daughter both have them.

How often you need a fill depends how fast your nails grow. I know they destroy the nail underneath - it takes a LONG time to grow a healthy nail out.

Has anyone had acrylic nails or gel's? Yes.
If so, what has your experience been? I love them!
Would you recommend them to a friend or an enemy? I highly recommend them to everyone!
How often did you have to have refills done? Ideally, you should go every 2 weeks, but I could stretch it to every 3 weeks

I don't have my nails now, but I tore a nail in Talbots Outlet this afternoon, and I am more than ready to back to the fake nails. My real nails are thin and tear like paper. Fake nails protect my real nails, and they are prettier than real nails. I wore the fake nails from August 1994 to June 2009. I love them!

My hair dresser has fake nails. When she shampooed my hair yesterday, I got the "tinglies" all over. I love for someone else to shampoo my hair. The scalp massage with fake nails feels so much better than the scalp massage with real nails.

Honestly? Nothing too clever, but an honest thought. Funny you wrote that because when I was reading your post I thought, "I must reply to this."

Here is my thought: Nails, be they on the fingers or the toes, can be sexy if kept up well. I have nothing against acrylic nails or anything cosmetic to make them look how you want them to look. Notice I did not write, "...to make them look better." There is a reason for that. If you want to go cosmetic, that is TOTALLY cool.....but for me, not necessary. Natural nails, they don't have to be perfect, are wonderful. Just keep them kept up and clean and that is perfect. Well kept nails makes a happy hand to hold!

I decided to get the acrylic nails when I went for my pedicure last night. So far, so good.

K68 likes them as I can scratch his back again. When I had my puny nails I couldn't scratch his back.

I have them and have had for over ten years. Couldn't do without them. I get them refilled every two weeks. Could go three most of the time. It's true they are hard on natural nails, but mine were so bad in the first place that I hardly notice. I have found that how successful they are depends very much on how good your manicurist is. A lot of places don't have very good people doing a thorough job and if that happens, you can have lots of breaks, fungus, etc. and that's not fun. Holler back and I'll recommend somebody good if you start having trouble.
