Brunchgate 2010 Drop off Passes issue

Post by Very Duke Blue » March 2nd, 2010, 9:21 am

I do believe it's time for others in our group to call Eric an discuss this issue. If he hears from enough of us, hopefully, we can get passes.

Larry, maybe you should resubmit some of these emails to Eric and Chris Kautza. I doubt they were passed on from Jack. They know you much better.

Thanks to all. :)

Thanks. Glad you spoke with Eric about the drop off passes, just to emphasize it. I've spoken with Eric, Jack Winters and Chris Kautza, who has taken Jacob's place. They know "nothink".

I finally got to speak with Eric. The person in charge of the tents last year was Jacob Powers, who is now gone. He was not with the Iron Duke Office but with the ticket office.. Eric thinks he has been replaced but does not think drop off issues have been resolved. He ask me to call back after basketball season, around the 1st of May.

Thats all I know. Nancy

Eric Beaty is the current director of the Iron Dukes. Jack Winters got kicked up one level, but he is Eric's boss.

Agreed. Why don't you call the Iron Duke office and ask to speak with Eric Beaty. Tell him why you're calling and what you say below! 919-613-7575.

i will be very disappointed if we can't get drop off passes. it was my understanding this was to happen for the 2010 season.
if passes are not to be granted, what we could bring to brunchgate will be very limited. we're paying a fair amount for the tent space, which we love and want very much to stay in the same place. we love being there for the devil walk and the reverse devil walk. we (and most of us) have been iron duke members a very long time. i am puzzled why the iron duke office is not more accommodating to our needs. we usually come several hours before game time when traffic is a non issue. we are loyal duke people. i do hope our needs will be strongly considered by the iron duke office.

I've decided that I'm going to copy your responses verbatim when I respond to Jacob. I'm also going to copy Coach Cut and Kevin White, so they get ALL the info first hand. Cathy, I think you're suggestions are great. Everyone else, keep em coming!

As for the parents of players, they have their tailgate close to the Yoh Building - we walk past it on the way to WW. I like your idea of them having a tent in BDA (Blue Devil Alley) tho, especially for after the game!

I'm not getting to the game 2 hours before kickoff? I only missed one Blue Devil Walk this year, and that was at the Wake Forest game. I think I'm getting there at least 2 and a half hours before kickoff.

All I need is a drop-off pass for Mom and Miss Fran. These two seventy-five year old ladies already have a handicapped pass in the President's Lot (the Iron Dukes' choice for handicapped parking). Both of them have bionic parts and cannot stand to do a lot of walking/hauling all over the athletic campus. I would love to drop them and their chairs off at the "Blue Devil Walk" sidewalk at Towerview so that their walk to the Brunchgate tent would be short. I don't mind driving to a remote parking place. I'll do all of the walking. Lord knows, I need the exercise. If I could drop them off, I could give up the handicapped pass, so long as I could have access to the tent area after the game to pick up these ladies and their chairs. Again, the drop-off pass makes total sense to me.

I've had this discussion with the Iron Dukes and their response was, "Well, we're planning to build a parking deck adjacent to Wallace Wade in the next five to ten years, so your problem will be solved." My response was that in five to ten years, Mom and Miss Fran will be eighty or eighty-five years old, and that they will appreciate the parking deck then, if they are still healthy enough to attend the games, but that our problem is CURRENT, and I've given them a solution (drop off pass) that costs next to nothing (the paper to print them, and the few meetings to discuss and implement the policy).

I like our location. I like the idea that we have the real estate across from our tent to set up our own tent or two. I think our group has shown great loyalty by getting up and driving several hours at the crack of dawn to greet the team, and I would hope that our loyalty to the tent program would be rewarded with our good tent location again. For many of us it's double loyalty, as we are Iron Dukes in addition to Blue Devil Alley tenters.

I know that the football program does a lot of stuff for the players' families, but if I had a suggestion to make, I would encourage the tent program to put a few tents out for the players' parents along Blue Devil Alley. I'd love to interact with them.

And it's not an Iron Dukes suggestion, but I hope that next year we could make some signs to welcome and encourage the team.

Also, I like the reverse Blue Devil Walk with cookies for the players. I'm feeling very maternal toward these guys. Next year, some of the players will be Sam's age. We need to show some appreciation to the team after the games, too!

I got this email from Jacob Powers today and wanted to run the questions by you guys, since y'all ARE Brunchgate. I've probably left someone out, please forward it to whomever if so (let me know). Please send me your answers and I'll compile our single answer to Jacob.

Personally, and from conversations we had late in the season at Brunchgates, as long as we keep our location, we don't mind our tailgate parking pass to be in the lot directly across Towerview, as long as there is a method (cart) to transport grills and supplies to our spot. If they put another row of tents where we (Tim and I) park now, that will have to happen. I know Herb Nuebauer (Crazie Towel Guy) absolutely hates this parking change and is threatening to pull out (his loss, not ours). Tim, Chris - what do you think? Y'all are the ones with most of the stuff.

In an email to Jacob earlier this week, I asked about a drop off pass for others, specifically for Cathy to drop her mom and Fran off, but also for others to drop off "stuff" and then go park in other ID lots. I think this had been vetoed but may be up for reconsideration based on the text of the email below. I can see having the Towerview access only drop off pass being limited to no less than 2 hours before game time - Cathy, that would have you getting there earlier than you do now - would you object to that?

OK, please think quickly and get back to me.

Larry

Tailgaters,

I want to Thank everyone again for their support of our football program and for being on the ground floor of our Tailgate Town. Everyone was great and we are really looking forward to this season.

I would like to ask a couple questions and get feedback from everyone on how we can expand this area and make it the best for everyone. There are a few things I would like to inform everyone before you give your responses.

We will not be able to expand the area and keep all of the cars in the lot. The Iron Dukes controls Card Gym lot and we are working together to make this atmosphere great on game day. Cars do not make atmosphere you guys and your friends do.

1) What was your favorite part of Blue Devil Alley and Tailgating in 2009?

2) Would anyone like to move their tent to the Grass Field along Frank Bassett Drive? (The Team walk will not go through this area)

3) What can we do to make this area better? More tents? Keep it the same?

4) Who would like to have multiple tents for next year?

5) Do you mind parking in the lot across the street from Card Gym and having drop off passes to load and unload your vehicles?

6) Do you want to see this area grow t0 30+ tents?

If you guys have any other questions or comments please let me know. We want this to be the best tailgating in the ACC and all comments are welcome. I look forward to hearing from each and every one of you soon!

Both Eric Beaty 919-613-7575 (head of the Iron Dukes (fund raising)) and Chris Kautza were copied on the email two weeks ago after meeting them at the Football Signing Event, and I confirmed with Eric that he had gotten it.

Thanks, I don't know of anything more we can do. When do you need a check Ozzie? I will need your mailing address or if we can make it to Tilly's, I can give it to you then.

I guess I'll take anyone's money whenever they want to give it to me ;) , but I don't "need" it until we officially sign up for the tent sometime in the next couple/few months. CB&B gave me a check last month and I have his money put away for safe keeping - I wouldn't want to spend it on something else, now would I!
