Bond, James Bond

Post by Lavabe » April 10th, 2009, 8:00 am

I never read previous threads of QoS, and I did not see it in the movies. I waited for the BluRay.

The BluRay of Quantum of Solace is out, and I have several comments:
1) Although I missed out on some cinematography in the movies, the BluRay version is worth it. If for nothing else, the BluRay lets you follow up and check a sort of a herky-jerky script/plot line.
2) After reviewing this and Casino Royale, I am giving Daniel Craig one more chance at Bond, but that's it. Too often, the critics will come up with a description of some actor's portrayal of something, and it has an effect on how people perceive an actor. In Craig's case, the word has been "brooding." I see the critics' point. However, given the plot line, I accepted brooding
3) Having said that, I see no element of SUAVE in Craig's performance. I miss that element.
4) Sound editing: Is it just me, or is Craig too much of a mumbler? I had thought he speaks way to low, but upon further review on BluRay, I'm actually more shocked with the sound editing. During the first 3/4 of the movie, the sound editor raises the surrounding volume in each scene that involves Bond actually speaking.
5) I don't like the special features on BluRay. The selections are very limited, no deleted scenes, ... and is rather repeated. The cast and crew notes from 32 folks in the cast/crew was too redundant. Lots of overlap with other features.
6) Hopefully the next movie will have more dialog. Way too much action, too little dialog.
7) Currently, Craig is below Lazenby and Dalton on my list of Bonds, but it's probably related to the plots of CR and QoS. I hope. The comparison I am making is the death of Teresa (Diana Rigg), and Bond's response to it in subsequent movies. Moore & even Dalton (Licence to Kill) played it VERY well... suave, polite, reserved, and hurt. Never brooding.
8) I liked Judy's "M" (Mum) role, as I did many of her MI6 staff roles. Hurray for Felix.
9) I want gadgets... more gadgets.
10) MUST ... HAVE... MONEYPENNY.
Alright. Please don't attack me Tilly... just some thoughts of the BluRay. DEFINITELY worth getting.
Cheers,

Lavabe, I would never attack you.

I do understand all of your points. Though I veer from your thinking. I like the brooding James. It's a different side of him, and as a different actor is playing James I would expect that. If DC portrayed Bond like any of his predecessors we would all be accusing him of trying to imitate them rather than making Bond his own.

CR and QOS were more closely tied to each other than other Bond films thus QOS, to me, is more of a squeal to CR than a movie in it's own right.

I also hope the next Bond has more dialogue and less action as well. All the fighting went too quickly, and was too redundant. Every other scene Bond is beating up a guy, boring.

The whole Strawberry Fields thing lend anything to the plot other than to remind us Bond can bed the girl. Fields could have had a stronger role in the film and I wonder if anything ended up being cut out that would have done exactly that.

Daniel Craig is a bit of a mumbler and, IIRC I didn't always understand what he was saying. As I haven't seen too many DC films I'm not sure if it's DC himself or DC being James Bond.

Just read that DC signed a 5 film deal. He has 3 more films to redeem himself, I suppose.

Really? I thought everyone knew. Then again, I did have to explain it to a friend of mine (who has one) a couple of months ago.

It's a tattoo on a girl's lower back. Also known as "butt antlers," "California license plate," and another word that you can find on urbandictionary.com
