Birthday Gift for a 1 year old...

Post by windsor » May 13th, 2009, 12:19 pm

I know several of you have young children. Since my 'baby' is old to be called 'hot' by some of guys on the board (without it making them look like creepy predators) I am hopelessly out of touch with what's cool for the diaper set. We are going to a 1st Birthday party Saturday (a little boy who is the son of one of my husbands co-teachers) I need a cool toy. Suggestions? Things to avoid?

Things to avoid... anything in that ugly shade of blue.

$30 - $40 is the price range. There will be nothing ugly blue, that is a given! I am not a child abuser!

Like you, I'm hopelessly out of touch too. I go to the store and look at the age appropriate toys and decide from there.

A toy they can push around. If the baby in question doesn't walk yet, they will soon. At that age, you give them something to push, it's like catnip, a little wagon, one of those toys on wheels that comes with blocks too (oh, what fun!), a doll stroller - even little boys love the doll strollers, you name it, if you can push it around, the one year olds go for it.
The time is out of joint, O cursed spite!

My kids had/have some version of all of the top 10 here and loved them:

My three year old has this tonka truck. He's had it since he was 1, and it's one of his favorite toys. It's huge, it's rugged, and when he was little, he climbed in it so his brother could push him around. It's one of the FEW toys he owns that he has not been able to break.

you can find it cheaper at wal-mart.
