Disco Attire

Post by CathyCA » January 7th, 2010, 2:38 pm

Since most of you lived through the 1970s, I need your help.

Christian has a Junior Cotillion party on Saturday night, and the theme is "Disco Fever." He must wear "disco attire."

I am fresh out of ideas for "disco attire." Any and all suggestions are appreciated. And the less money I have to spend, the better!

How would you outfit your 12 year old for a "Disco Fever" party?

Think lounge lizard and head to the nearest Salvo (Salvation Army or other thrift store). Look for satin shirts that can be left unbuttoned at the top, heavy gold chains, and bell bottoms. If you can find a white suit - even better.

Perhaps shoes with some height to the heels, bell bottoms, and a can of paint? Then he can recreate the opening scene to Saturday Night Fever.

platform shoes (thrift store) or 'shoe boots' bell bottoms (skin tight) polyester is most authentic...a leisure suit would be the pinnacle of 70s....lots of gold chains...shirt unbuttoned (satin looking is best)

Shaggy hair (cheap wig and a pair of scissors)

I'm getting all nostalgic...

Up above my head I hear music in the air...that let's me know there's a party somewhere..... :banana-guitar: :obscene-drinkingdrunk:

I looked in the guest bedroom closet but I gave away all my disco error suits back in the 80's. Sorry :(

I suggest 'Anti-Disco' attire, if possible. Something from the Neil Young Collection, perhaps? :character-beavisbutthead:

Miss Kay just emailed an "amended" invitation.

It now says "DISCO ATTIRE--if you desire!"

I'm thinking that I could just print the picture that DA posted above, get it laminated and attach it to a pin back. Then Christian could pin it to his shirt and tell his friends, "This is as close to polyester as I'm getting."

If you/he wanted a few "Hustle" lessons, Mrs. DD and I would be glad to oblige, but I'd bet we are too late.

They'll spend the first half of Cotillion tomorrow night learning "The Hustle" and other disco moves. The second half will be spent trying out those dance moves.

I wonder if he'll remember them when he gets home to show his old Mom.

Nah, no costumes required. That was a nice evening last year to have a meal at Casa Linga and dessert/drinks at our house. Hoping something like that could be arranged again this year.
