I just had myself tested for a rare blood disorder my dad has that almost killed him. Well did kill him until they resuscitated him. Looks like the results are negative. That's the good news for today.

Jeez, that is good news. And scary. Everything alright with your pops?

Yeah he's fine. It happened in 1994. He has a condition called antiphospholipid syndrome that causes "hypercoagulability" of his blood. He got a clot in his leg that blew, went to the lungs, caused a pulmonary embolism. Boom. Keeled over in the cafeteria at work. Thank the lord for portable defibrillators and people who know CPR. He's been fine ever since, taking blood thinners on a daily basis. There's an antibody test you can get, and I finally got it. I'm normal. Two of his sisters have it. There's some evidence that it's hereditary.

Glad he is ok and that you don't have it.

Some remember nothing and others have seen bright lights or tunnels or periods of their lives flash before them.

When you say "periods of their lives flash before them," are we talking just little snapshots, or are these entire interludes playing on super duper fast-forward? I'm really interested in this (obviously I understand that you may not have gotten into that much detail with any of these people).

It has been a while, but they mentioned things like "seeing folks they had not seen in years" and flashes of memories of various events in their lives. Some of the things I wish I had documented so I can write my medical book when I retire.

In the last few weeks before my Mom passed away, she talked about the two ladies that were taking care of her. Dad tried to pass it off as two of us daughters but I really believe that Aunt Pat and Betty were in the room with her. Betty was her best friend and had died less than a year before. Aunt Pat had been gone for a few years.

It's like flippin' clockwork for me these days...look at her face, then her left hand. I do it without even thinking. It's kind of weird.

Don't feel too bad about it. The first thing I noticed about the good looking fireman stepping out of the truck at the block party was the ring on his left hand. I still admired God's handiwork.

Rings, or the lack thereof, tell very little about the person wearing them.

Y'all do know that I don't wear a wedding ring, right?

It's that darn metal allergy. Supposedly I can wear platinum but I refuse to buy myself a replacement wedding ring, that's Mr. Bostondevil's job. Three anniversaries have passed since I stopped wearing a wedding ring. Hmmmm.

That's why the lack of a ring doesn't tell the whole story either. Lack of a ring means it is ok to inquire/check it out. Ring is a definite no-no in my book. Someone who doesn't wear a ring and lies about it is a in my book.

For those of you who are members, the thread lives in the 'Completely Pointless and Arbitrary' forum. The picture associated with the 'Completely Pointless and Arbitrary' forum is of David Beckham and Posh Spice. It's what the group founder got when she googled 'completely pointless arbitrary'. Works for me.
