I follow NASCAR, but I'm more of a fan of the sport than particular drivers. I'm happy if Mark Martin, Jr., Smoke, or Denny Hamlin win a race. I'm a fan of Joe Gibbs, so I generally like to see his cars do well, though I think there's a driver I hate in that group now, so I pull AGAINST him. I'm neither happy nor unhappy if Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman, Matt Kennseth, Jimmy Johnson, or many others win. I'm only really peeved if the Busches, Juan Pablo Montoya (who just seems like a winy little prick to me), or the guy who used to have the rainbow crap all over his car win. I waffle on Kasey Kahne. Sometimes I like him, sometimes he pisses me off. I pull for a good, exciting race with lots of spectacular crashes (with no injuries of course) more than I do for any particular driver, though Jr.'s travails the last few years have made my underdog heart bleed for him.

The captain's post reminded me of a commercial a few years ago with one of the drivers, I want to say Smoke, driving to work in a carpool. He keeps turning left, and they ask him if he wants to turn right. He asks the guy why he would want to.

I'm with Obama on NASCAR.
And hey, if it's good enough for Ymo, it's good enough for me.

I don't follow NASCAR either. I kind of got it after watching the old movie Six Pack with Kenny Rogers, but I'm still a bit clueless. Just ask my dad. I somehow manage to bug him on the last lap of races and he gets so mad at me, but how the heck do you know it's the last lap? They all look alike  !!

I was watching the History International the other night, and they had a show called something like "The Link". They were talking about some special fossil they found, trying to figure out if it was a lemur or not. Anyway, they had a specialist go to the Duke Lemur Center and examine the lemurs for comparison purposes. I'd never actually SEEN the DLC before, so it was kinda cool to see it. They said that the Duke Lemur Center was one of the largest and most extensive anywhere.

We are approaching 7,000 posts here, and this place is QUIET.

Maybe we could talk about orange soda or something. ;)

This fossil, Ida, was discussed earlier this year, as it received a TON of publicity. I just did see a critical discussion of it in either Smithsonian or Scientific American. Will try to find a "link," so to speak. ;)

Maybe you can explain for me the meaning of NBA basketball or NHL hockey. Both sports have done a serious job at losing this former fan.

Perhaps it's Stern and Gary Bettman.

Oh yeah, and MLB has done a good job at losing me as a fan.

Blech and MM made it a clean finish. KB gave him room and MM didn't push him out of the way. I thought it was a very good way to end it.
Agreed 100%. As MM said afterward, he just didn't have it. Blech was actually kind of complimentary of MM.

I think all this travel with lemurs has made you a bitter, bitter man. ;) Either that, or you're jealous of both teams' success.

Blame it on the Thomas' Alleged Bagels that I had to buy yesterday. :-o

If I had capital, I'd partner with someone to start a bagel franchise here.
