For some mind boggling reason, ESPN has had the cheaters way up high on their tourney chances the past couple weeks. Reason has finally prevailed, and they've now dropped the Heels like rocks. (The only locks in the conference are us, Clemson, and Louisville; SMU is the only other team that doesn't "have work to do".)

Facing a high-leverage game on the road against fellow ACC bubble squad Clemson on Monday, the Tar Heels came out flat and lost big. Making matters worse, they were one of the biggest losers when ESPN Analytics adjusted its forecast model, dropping from better than an 85% chance to only 19%. It's not hard to see why: The Heels are a borderline top-50 SOR team with a 7-11 record against the BPI top 100. And they have only a few more chances to meaningfully add to their résumé before the conference tournament: at FSU on Feb. 24 and against Duke on March 8. (Updated Feb. 11 at 8:39 p.m.)

For the last couple weeks as Lunardi has had the Heels on the outside looking in, the "bubble watch" guys had them at almost 90% "in".

Lunardi has the Tigers as a 7 seed, which is safely in.

Last night I thought I saw them on the "first four out" list. Odd, because before the LOSS TO CLEMSON, they were on the "next four out list." How they could go UP in a game where they were totally blown out by a non-ranked team, is beyond me.
