4-18 over the last 22 games dating back to last season. The wheels really fell off. I’m saddened for the man. He didn’t seem like a good fit when he was hired but really did a good job.

Old coaches and new ways of handling the game don't mix. NIL takes another victim.

Yeah. I really hate what NIL and the transfer portal are doing to college sports. Stories of tampering are starting to run rampant in football (certain teams openly recruiting players from opposing teams during the season). Duke football fell victim to that one last year. It appears that Ole Miss is doing it now. Look at teams that lost a lot of players early vs those that gained a lot of players early in the window. It’s pretty telling. I’d like to think we didn’t do that with our new QB, but the timing is somewhat telling.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑December 26th, 2024, 5:26 pmOld coaches and new ways of handling the game don't mix. Best of luck to Larranaga. Sad to see the new landscape take another coach, but I respect him for knowing it was time to step aside.
Most people say that is it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character.

Yeah, there's no way we get a quarterback commitment in two days with a rumored two-year deal without the parties having worked things out in advance. "Tampering" really isn't a thing anymore, because the NCAA knows it would be struck down as a restraint on trade. With multi-year deals happening, though, I do wonder if good old-fashioned contract interference will become a thing.ArkieDukie wrote: ↑December 27th, 2024, 7:55 amIt’s pretty telling. But the schools are screwed as long as the courts continue to regard college sports as a professional enterprise without the IRS allowing non-profit ownership of a professional sports league. The players don't even need a union, since they already have all the leverage. We'll see how long that continues, though. It's a completely weird and opaque situation. I couldn't predict what will happen this year, let alone in five or ten.
