I'm working today (probably will be very slow) but I'm taking at least the morning off tomorrow. I know I'll be up way late and likely emotionally drained.
I'm thinking about going to bed early tonight. But I'm not sure if I will fall asleep and/or stay asleep. I wish there was a good game on to distract me. I am obviously a big politics/news junkie but at this point I can't take it and the analysis will drive me nuts. And my kids don't need to see me in that state.

Well at least the folks that know they are on Trump's retaliation list have time to pack up.

If this puts me on the list, so be it. Since there are a limited number of places I frequent that are open to this kind of thing, congratulations, you get it. If you've seen it already, I apologize. I don't get out much.

I finally found my way over here. Four days later and I’m still discouraged and upset. How can a majority of the country prefer a convicted felon and sexual predator who plans to round up and execute his political opponents? It has become a trademark of our country now that a demonstrably unqualified rich white guy always wins over a supremely qualified female. This one just happens to be dangerously unfit to serve. I guaran-damn-tee that a majority of his followers heard sanewashed versions of his speeches, if they heard anything at all that he said during the campaign. I’d say they deserve what is coming at this point, but they have unleashed it on all of us.

I guess the one bright side of his winning is that it lessens the likelihood of a civil war. We all know he was laying the groundwork to incite one if he didn’t win.

I've intentionally not followed the news since Tuesday, other than the weather. My wife asks me what's going on the world, and my answer is "fuckifIknow". I'll tune back in at some point, but right now I need the sanity break.

This might very well be the best thing I’ve seen this week. Thanks so much for sharing!

The people have spoken.

I hope everyone is well - especially the folks who voted with the minority.

Kari Lake loses. She's insufferable. I'm assuming she'll fight this loss for the next four years just as she did with the Governorship.

The sweep is complete as the Republicans take the House.

They now have the White House, The Senate, The House, and The Supreme Court. America is all in on Red.

The GOP is largely incompetent. They will fuck it up and lose in the mid terms - at least the House.

The big question is, will it be too late by then? Two years gives them enough time to completely destroy the country. At least, that’s their plan.

The MO state legislature is already planning to act on abortion. The claim is that “we didn’t know what we were voting for.” They pulled this same thing on the amendment we passed to have independent cartographers draw congressional districts. They wrote a new superseding amendment that gave them the power to do it and worded it in such a confusing manner that people approved it without realizing they were doing so.

He's gonna get confirmed, because you can't disappoint Dear Leader, but still, this is the mood.
The news was met with bewilderment and worry among many in Washington as Trump passed on a number of established national security heavy-hitters and chose an Army National Guard officer well known in conservative circles as a co-host of Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends Weekend.”
Hegseth's choice could bring sweeping changes to the military. He has made it clear on his show and in interviews that, like Trump, he is opposed to “woke” programs that promote equity and inclusion. He also has questioned the role of women in combat and advocated pardoning service members charged with war crimes.

I trust the most pro peace President of my lifetime.

Anyone who wants to disregard the a decorated combat veteran with 20+ years of military experience and his Princeton and Harvard degrees just because he worked for Fox… I don’t know what to tell you.

I'm going to take this opportunity to address an issue. This thread is for civil discourse. It may be opinionated, but whatever you post needs to be meaningful and further the discussion. The comment above (and the one above that) is blatant trolling and unwelcome.
I encourage all posters to not react to posts such as these, as there is no purpose in them. Continue on with your own thoughts, but don't engage.
This applies to any poster, regardless of your political persuasion. Either advance the conversation, or find another platform.

Thanks kindly, the management.

PS, any posts from here on that do not adhere to this ask will be deleted without explanation.

I respect your board and your rules, but neither of my previous two posts were “trolling”.

Could you explain how the response to the SoD pick was “trolling”? All I did was point out his achievements and qualifications while stating a fact that Trump was the most pro peace president of my lifetime.

The most recent post was admittedly a lazy response made while multitasking with work - but it was not a trolling attempt. I do not believe women should be in combat roles. Controversial statement? Maybe. But it’s my opinion, and an opinion that many Americans agree with.

Our adversaries laugh when we do silly shit like this: https://thehill.com/policy/defense/5994 ... diers/amp/

Anyways, I was under the impression that this board promoted freedom of speech. If freedom of speech is just code for saying shit, fuck, cunt and making fun of “orange Hitler”, I’ll leave. Freedom of speech, in principle, should mean encouraging opposing viewpoints and debating them civilly. If I failed at the “civilly” part, I apologize and I’ll try to do better.

*for the record, I do not agree with pardoning people for legitimate war crimes.

For the first time in seemingly forever, Mitch won't be the lead voice for the Republicans in the Senate. (Or the Senate overall, for that matter, starting in January.)

John Thune will rise from Minority Whip to Speaker of the Senate. Trump's MAGA friends wanted Rick Scott to run things, so this is somewhat of a rebuke.
