Ymm, wine!
So am I the only wine aficionado here? Anyone else into good grape juice? What do you like? Reds, whites or blushes? Dry, semi-dry or sweet? Cali style or old world?

Re: Ymm, wine!
I finished up a bottle of Newman's Own Grape Juice that I got at Costco. Now, for the real subject. All I know is that wine gets me drunk fairly quickly...as far as quality, I can tell what's good and bad but not why. I was once seen in the Pits offering boxed wine to anyone who wanted some. Apparently, I had absconded the said beverage from an Engineering Wine and Cheese mixer after imbibing a large portion of it.

Re: Ymm, wine!
You are not alone! I enjoy various types of wine, different kinds at different times. Don't have sophisticated tastes compared to many. Among my recent favorites are Cavito Pinot Grigio ....mmmmm great, unpretentious white and Pinot Noir which is an absolutely fabulous red as good as any new Beaujolais !!!! I've served Biltmore Estate Cardinal Crest and guests raved about its complex flavor with roast marinated pork tenderloin. Another favorite a friend introduced me to a few years ago is Toasted Head Chardonnay. Also like Black Opal Chardonnay. Can't remember the name of one of my favorite blushes, a California wine that was especially fine back in the 80's. As for French wines, haven't tasted one I didn't like.DukeUsul wrote:So am I the only wine aficionado here? Anyone else into good grape juice? What do you like? Reds, whites or blushes? Re: Ymm, wine!
I typically like reds - a good Cab, Pinot, or Syrah. I do like a nice white in the summer - Pinot Grigio, Savignon Blanc. I tend to avoid the Chardonnays. Haven't had Chablis since high school - I would drink it instead of the Tickle Pink crap my friends drank. (More for me that way!)
As mentioned on the LTE, I don't know much about wine. I use my Brother-in-law's theory - look for the cheapest bottle with the highest rating.

My favorite wine is Eau-de-Budweiser
I have told that to many a person if he/she asked if I'd like some wine.

I love wine, but I don't have half the knowledge that I'd like. I usually defer to Kelly on the wine selection; she's got mad crazy skills in the department, among many other.
I enjoy the California Cabs and Pinot Grigio over Chardonnay.

Re: Ymm, wine!
Anything dry. I tend toward Chardonnay for whites and Cabernet for reds. I like the Biltmore wines out of NC, and I recently discovered a good outfit out of Washington state called Red Diamond.
Like others, though, I don't know a great deal about wine.

Re: Ymm, wine!
Tonight we had some friends over. We sucked down two bottles of the good stuff.
Roessler "La Brisa" Pinot Noir 2006
Roessler "Peregrine" Pinot Noir 2006
They were both fantastically delicious and paired well with barbecue chicken. I found the Peregrine a spicier pinot, whereas the La Brisa was more mellow.

Yes, that is a wine. I'm trying the Cab. Don't remember the year and the bottle is upstairs so I'll check that latter.
