In more "Run Away! Run Away!!" news, this lady thinks Trump will ditch the country. Literally.
Longtime Trump Organization executive Barbara Res appeared on CNN Newsroom With Ana Cabrera on Sunday where she raised questions about how, and where, Trump’s term in office will come to an end. President Trump’s finances, and that of The Trump Organization, are the focus of multiple investigations in the state of New York. Res believes Trump may leave the country before he leaves office to escape the legal jeopardy he could face as a citizen.

I guess it's possible, but it's hard to spearhead your 2024 campaign from Scotland.

If he were to ever do such a thing, do the Secret Service agents have to go with him?

I wrote a long post calling Jason out on his hypocrisy. I was a little all over the place, but I think I got my point across. But so far, I haven't been dinged for it. I appreciate that several others backed me up. Before he locked it up. With great power comes great responsibility. If he wants to mod, he has to do it right. It's not an easy job. Admit when you're wrong - we all make mistakes.

I just did my periodic perusal through Trump's twitter (I haven't eaten in a while so can't puke). Not as horrible as usual but still bad. I hadn't noticed that he said that Rudy got China Virus, not coronavirus. He really is like a two year old.

Some how I missed all the excitement on OY. I would just like to say for the record that I am offended when someone calls a Dem “socialist”. Perhaps only because when it’s used its used in a derogatory manner. I think the reason why people don’t state that they are offended by it is that everyone is numb to hearing Trump say it. Hearing Loeffler saying “radical socialist” did make me reflect in this way. Anyway, I think Jason is way off. It’s just as offensive as being called a fascist.

I want to sincerely apologize for getting the thread OY permanently closed. I also want to sincerely thank everyone for the support.

I honestly didn't think the question was out of line and was surprised to come back to a ban. It was an honest question. I was tired of that "socialist" lie, and yet I didn't leap into calling them fascists. If "they" can get away with it, why can't "we". Watch the PBS doc "Rise of the Nazis" which is on right now, the parallels are frightening. Don't fool yourself that it can't happen here.

Being banned, you can't even defend yourself, so I really do appreciate the backup. It appeared to be 100%. I think we're all a bit tired of having to play nice while the other side doesn't care to do the same.

Funny, before I came here I copied "Many Democrats have embraced the socialist moniker." I agree Furniture, really? "Many"? There might be a few, and Bernie IS NOT A DEMOCRAT. There are probably more fascists that identify as Republicans than socialists that identify as Democrats. To pretend otherwise, and not be allowed to discuss it honestly, is part of the reason the country is where its at.

Anyway, thanks again. And it's all worthwhile for the hashtag "freedudog84". Pretty cool. :character-beavisbutthead:

Jason publicly calling you out in that snarky way was very inappropriate. As you and I have discussed via PM, part of me wishes they would let us know what people were getting dinged for rather than just yanking the post and privately dinging. But at the same time, it should not be a public shaming, especially when you asked a very reasonable question. Republicans aren't calling Democrats socialists as a way of expressing their support and love towards Democrats. Again, Dems are being penalized for being nice guys - just because we aren't tweeting non-stop that Trump is a fascist doesn't mean we aren't thinking it. We are trying to take the high road.

I tried to explain this but might have been a bit long winded. But I think it was pretty unanimous that Jason went way too far. Maybe we can do a poll about it and that will put it in language that he understands. I like Jason and think he is a good guy doing the best he can at a tough job. But here he was creating drama out of nothing. And the passive aggressive tone in his post closing the thread didn't help either. He should have said something like "it seems like several of you believe that my comment and punishment towards Dudog was incorrect. I will briefly close the thread while I consult with other mods."

As I mentioned in my post, there are a lot of pieces out there about whether Trump's behavior is fascist. There are plenty of respected people who think it is. There were a number of articles that I found that said he was close but not there yet, but most of those were from September or October. I think his behavior since the election has pretty clearly thrown him over the line.

I don't know why I take all of this so seriously. But I do. Free DuDog84! And while we're at it, make restitutions for DuDog84 being wrongly incriminated!

Uh, no. Although, I will say, many of my far-right family members call people Democrats like it's a curse word.

Why does Trump think that any networks will cover a rally of his instead of the inauguration? (OANN and Newsmax or whoever they are don't count.)
President Donald Trump is planning a made-for-TV exit from the White House to steal attention from President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration, Axios reported.

Sources told the outlet that Trump is planning to fly to Florida on Air Force One to stage a rally at the same time Biden is sworn in at a socially distanced inauguration in Washington, DC, on January 20.

lol, you kids are too much. And after further thought, I am getting too much credit for shutting it down. My comment did not get the thread closed...your comments supporting me did!

Where we go one we go all!

I think Jason did a very good job OY managing the unmanageable. I would put that thread up against any political discussion on the interwebs, and it would be hard to find a more civil and informative virtual conversation. Jason deserves a lot of credit for helping that to happen.

As for locking it, well — who could really keep a “neutral” thread open when one candidate is an unrepentant asshole who tramples on all norms of polite discourse and democracy itself? I assume he finally had enough, and/or was getting grief from other mods because the thread was still open and was a one-sided bash-fest of Herr Trump.

Maybe he’ll reopen it upon reflection; maybe he won’t. Either way, it was a good ride while it lasted. While I respectfully disagree with his decision on this specific issue, if I was mod there would no doubt be plenty of times y’all would disagree with my decisions too. Comes with the territory.

Oh, and fuck Trump and his merry band of enablers for this last shit they are taking on our democracy.

Big picture wise this was a very trivial matter to close down the thread imho. It was a simple question which even if it was objectionable to some could have been stopped with no drama.
Over the years there have been many more upsetting discussions such as those about Tyler Thornton for instance.

Which is why I hope upon reflection and some distance he opens it again. But I would understand it if he ran the rope out as far as it would go.

Anywho — the discussion goes on here either way.
