Pretty good stats...I don’t think it’s a go for OY.
Why not? It's 100% factual.

I am worried about what he might do, either in the next two months, and/or after he leaves office. He can take all of those briefing books he never read and/or colored in and auction them off to the highest bidder. I wish he would just spend the next two months on the golf course and do nothing. And what is wrong with playing a course that doesn't have your name on it? Other than the fact that many don't want you there?
It's all marketing. Why advertise the competition?

And that's kinda the purpose of the emoluments clause, which is about as real as Santa Claus.

Trumps twitter feed is going to be a thing of beauty.

Initially when Wayne County Board of Canvassers refused to certify he was celebrating and calling for Michigan to be switched to him....

“ Flip Michigan back to TRUMP. Detroit, not surprisingly, has tremendous problems!”

His steady state blood pressure must be ridiculously high. Now it must be through the roof. At some point he will really blow a fuse and his hair will pop off his head and he will go from orange to bright red.

It's funny that someone who is fighting so hard to retain the office seems to have no interest in actually doing the job.

Or at least we tell ourselves it is funny to avoid the intense frustration and sadness this situation otherwise provokes. Also, it may be best for the country if Trump does as little as possible. Regrettably, it looks like he's still actively trying to screw shit up, he's just doing less of it in public than usual.

If he actually wanted the job, he might have had a decent Presidency. Instead, it was and remains a personal marketing scheme to him.

I think that if he weren't so scared of being prosecuted, he'd have accepted defeat (begrudgingly and still saying it was robbed) and walked away. Like y'all have pointed out, he has no interest in the job itself, but he does have interest in the protection that it provides him.

As he gets angrier and angrier with January 20th approaching, I doubt even more than before that he will pardon anyone other than his family. The rest of the poor bastards can go down on his sinking ship with him. He might even think that ultimately that will help him in his legal cases.

Totally agree. Before the whole prosecution issue was brought to my attention a few years ago, I was convinced that he would not bother running for a second term and would just say that he needed to return to his business interests, thus avoiding the possibility of losing. But the legal issues forced his hand.

I still can't wrap my arms around the whole "pardon yourself for things you haven't yet been convicted of." What a dumb rule. I agree that he will pardon his family, but if there are others that he thinks can help him, either in court cases or in future business endeavors, he might also pardon them. Everything is transactional for him, so he will help anyone who might be able to help him.

It is completely unclear that this actually is a rule. Most Constitutional scholars do not believe that a self-pardon is permissible. I doubt a very conservative, "Founders' intent"-oriented Court will agree, either. There is pretty clear evidence that the Founders did not intend for anyone to be above the law, and that's what a self-pardon would effectively do.

As for conduct for which one hasn't been convicted, that already is the rule. You must have committed the potentially criminal act, but a prosecution for that act need not have begun, nor even an investigation of it opened. The President can simply declare that the person is pardoned for that act, period.

Now this part, I completely agree with. He won't pardon people out of the goodness of his heart. Quite the opposite. He will pardon people with the intention that they help him later. The only trick there is, he doesn't particularly feel gratitude on his own part, so he is likely to assume that most other people also won't feel grateful, and therefore will not be useful once pardoned. So he'll pardon only the ones he can absolutely count on to be loyal directly to him, even after he is out of office. That's bound to be a fairly small group.

I thought his pardons can be for federal crimes only and since a lot of his issues are with New York State it won’t help him. Hopefully that applies to his clan.

The problem there is guilt by association. So he's saying they are guilty, but he's letting them off. If I were a lawyer, I'd be jumping all over that.
"Well, you know, we've been looking at you for the same crimes, and...Ta-Da!"

And to Furniture's inquiry, yeah...he's screwed in NY regardless.
