Re: November Virtual Pub 11/14
First letter on tap (or should I say "in can"): E
Wicket Awesome
Eureka Heights - Houston, TX
Style: ESB
ABV: 4.7%
IBU: 30
Grains: Marris Otter, Crystal, Special Roast
Hops: East Kent Golding, Challenger
Awards: Gold Medal GABF - ESB
"This English Style Pale Ale is mighty special. Brewed with traditional U.K. ingredients that give this beer an aroma of biscuits with hints of dark fruits. Drink some of this and you might start reciting Shakespeare or even Chaucer."
It's been awhile since I've had an ESB, but found this one very enjoyable.

Here's one I forgot from 6/13/20. Who knew LegoBatman would create a Scrabble VP and I could repost this :

From last PM:
Ol' Rugger-Zaftig Brewing Company
Locally brewed, locally consumed
Credit-son; many thanks for sharing would be an understatement for this brew
Style-BBA imperial stout
Format-12 ounce bottle ($15 ), shared 3 ways
Bottling date-2019 (probably 1/2019 or 2/2019)
Stemware-snifters
Appearance-oh, so close to midnight black; thin, mocha head
Nose-boozy, dark chocolate fudge
Mouthfeel-20W50; darn near chewy
Tastes-dark chocolate bourbon balls, molasses, dark fruit, hint of coffee, char
Adjuncts-none listed
IBU-SWAG of 50
ABV-16%; hence the 3 way share; bourbon not hidden at all but not overpowering
Overall impression-as good, if not better that Bourbon County or just about any other BBA RIS I've ever tasted; celebrating children's milestones=even better
Ymm, Beer rating-top, front and center of cat 3, with a ribbon, bow and medal; an amazing concoction
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

Re: November Virtual Pub 11/14
Ooh, another Z, even thought there's only one in the Scrabble game. From 02/02/2020:
BBA Nuts for You-Zaftig Brewing Company
Local for one family member
Credit-son of devildeac but not sure when; thanks!!
Format-12 ounce bottle
Style-flavored imperial stout
Freshness stuff-bottled 2019 (no date/month); batch 263
Stemware-snifter
Appearance-dark brown; no head
Nose-extra boozy Peter Pan creamy
Mouthfeel- smooth but a bit thin
Tastes-am I drinking a peanut butter, chocolate and bourbon sammich on slightly burned toast?
Adjuncts-"...hot nuts, you buy 'em from the peanut man..."
IBU-perhaps 50
ABV-9%; yep, my peanut butter sammich last PM was booze-soaked
Overall impression-somewhat unusual combination that I quite enjoyed
Ymm, Beer rating-with a backdoor cut, it snuck into cat 3

Re: November Virtual Pub 11/14
Next up: B
Van Dayum!
Blue Owl Brewing - Austin, TX
Sour Red Ale
ABV: 5.7%
IBU: 32
"Balanced red ale. Malty, with biscuit, caramel, and dark fruit character and a moderate sour finish. Our dry-hopped red ale showcases how rich malt balances piney American hop flavors along with our unique souring process."
I'm still kind of new to sours. Wasn't sure on the first sip, but ended up liking it by the end.

Re: November Virtual Pub 11/14
I thought I would not be able to participate in this month's VP due to my brother coming in to town but who knows when he will actually show up. I may be on, I may not.
Re: November Virtual Pub 11/14
I'm not sure who's keeping track but I started last night with D
Since Dogtown Brewery closes at 5!, I ended up with Dogfish Head's - Super Eight -
Brewed with "prickly pear, mango, boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry, elderberry, kiwi juices, toasted quinoa and an ample addition of red Hawaiian sea salt!"
Definitely a fruit-punch kinda vibe to it. A little bit like a bite of salted watermelon. I could see that.
At 5.3, pretty light to get started with.
In an extremely crowded Gose field, I would put it somewhere Cat 2 range. I think I still prefer their Seaquench but this was nice.

Hope you’re there, understand if you can’t.
Have a great Thanksgiving if we don’t speak.
Re: November Virtual Pub 11/14
Thanks LegoBatman for hosting!
Great fun!!!!
My second beer was a scrabble word unto itself:
Allagash River Trip (art)
Cracked open the 2017 Three Floyds Dark Lord to start.
Was way, way too cold to start.
Took maybe 20 mins to hit the right temperature.
Coffee coloured head. Inky black.
Super rich mouthfeel.
Unbelievably sweet, really hides the high ABV.
Lots of chocolate and caramel dominated by an off sugar flavour akin to the black treacle used in Theakston’s Old Peculier.
I am so, so grateful to have finally tried 3 Floyds Dark Lord, a huge white whale.
Maybe it makes accfanfrom1970 smile, Hardywood brews better stouts at half the price.
I can’t say Dark Lord is over hyped as it is an excellent beer. It is grossly overpriced.
I’ve got two more in the fridge I eagerly anticipate before 2020 closes.
Skol!

Re: November Virtual Pub 11/14
Big round of applause to LegoBatman for hosting Scrabble Virtual Pub today. Great idea and a lot of fun with our Zoom meeting, too. I had some great "consonant" breweries/beers during the week but never got around to buying a vowel so I've assigned myself a score of zero despite having N, W and Z on my board.

It does make me and I agree. I’ve had two Floyd’s and they are excellent, but too expensive. White whale and all, I’m glad I’ve got them and am saving one for next year.
