Hey, need help for my wife’s 20th anniversary gift...

Hey,
I need some help. Our 20th anniversary is in 10 months, but I wanted to get working on the gift. We have an old hi-8 camcorder with a ton of videos of the kids. I wanna get them onto an ipad for her. I have an older desktop computer running windows 7 pro with hdmi and usb inputs. Is there a way to transfer it onto my desktop and then onto an ipad? What cables/software do I need?
