I'm still laughing at the fake punt.

I just read the ESPN article about the game, to see what NIU said about the fake punt, and the coach said we were physical with their gunners, so they thought they could get a pass interference call and a first down.CameronBornAndBred wrote:I'm still laughing at the fake punt.
Didn’t we discuss yesterday in Section 21 that there isn’t PI on fake punts? How is it that we know more than their coach?

That genius call earned the coach the "Dumbest Play of the Bowl Season" award.lawgrad91 wrote:I just read the ESPN article about the game, to see what NIU said about the fake punt, and the coach said we were physical with their gunners, so they thought they could get a pass interference call and a first down.CameronBornAndBred wrote:I'm still laughing at the fake punt.

Hearing his logic, and being reminded about there being no PI called on a fake makes it even more dumberer. I like how basically his logic says that his team won't make it happen, but the defense will do something stupid and make it all work.
A well deserved shoutout to our kicker, William Holmquist. 4/5 on his kicks, with the miss being a PAT. He did well on punting, too. Even with that ugly one that had a nice roll to it after hitting the turf.
He carried a big burden going into this game and stepped up to the challenge. A really cool way to end his football playing career.

On the missed PAT, it looked like a timing issue to me. Holmquist started to move...hesitated...then kicked the ball. With his timing screwed, he yanked it left. Substitute hitting a golf ball for kicking a football and I'm a Subject Matter Expert on what happens with bad timing...left, right, in the woods, etc...
