Duke vs. Florida State

Post by Bob Green » October 8th, 2017, 12:09 pm

Our beat down of the Seminoles will commence at 12 noon with coverage by ESPN2. It is time to straighten out the offense and get a win.

I hate that noon kick for so many reasons, but the biggest is crowd size. Duke fans are bad about showing up, but even worse at noon. Seminole fans are NOT bad about showing up, and Wallace Wade is going to echo with that stupid tomahawk chop chant.
Here's to hoping that the team keeps that chant to a minimum.

I have confidence that the defense will be able to do well, but unless the offense has a major turnaround, we are in for a long day. Like Bob says...RUN THE DAMN BALL!!!

I am going to keep my negativity, about the offense, to a minimum this week; however, I desire to go on record as saying, if I was King for the Week, I would move Shaun Wilson to slot receiver, start Brittain Brown at running back and go straight at FSU with a combination power running game with Brown and lots of jet sweeps with Wilson. Bring Wilson in motion constantly and force FSU to deal with Wilson and Brown simultaneously. Mix in pass plays to keep the defense honest but run the ball twice as much as pass plays. Bracey needs to start and see more targets. With Wilson in the slot, move Lloyd outside. Sit Rahming and Taylor down until they learns to catch the ball.

While I'm not expecting to see major changes, something absolutely must change.

Vegas opening odds will post sometime this afternoon so I'm predicting FSU to open up favored by 8 points.

Lots of good stuff in this article on wral. Some really good and earned constructive criticism of the coaching staff.
At any other school, Cutcliffe, offensive coordinator Zac Roper, and star quarterback Daniel Jones would all be on the hot seat. At Duke, however, that kind of pressure is unheard of thanks to the historic failures of those who came before.
Cutcliffe built a successful program by daring to ask “Why not Duke?” It’s time for fans to ask the same question now when pondering the comfort level of the coaches and players accountable for this two-game slide.

Without much hope for our offense, it will take a gladiator performance from our defense to have a chance tomorrow. Our run defense should be strong enough to force Blackmon to make plays with his arm. I expect this game to stay close, but how can we expect to score against the type of athletes FSU has on defense combined with our ineptitude to move the ball? If nothing changed after the Miami performance, why would it change now?

FSU looked on-par with a Miami team that completely overwhelmed us. That's all I need to know.

FSU 24
Duke 14

I'm under no illusion Coach Cutcliffe is going to stop passing the ball and emphasize the team's offensive strength - running the football, so our QB and receivers better figure out how to complete some passes or it is going to be a long afternoon.

The defense needs to contain the Seminoles running game and force the freshman QB to beat us with his arm. Easier stated than accomplished.

Assuming the offense shows up...

Duke 23
FSU 21

The over/under is 44.5 and Duke games have been under for four straight weeks.
