Re: LTE 2.0
My property manager is a slug. My future boss is holding my offer letter until I get an answer regarding my lease. I talked to him about this issue last week and am STILL waiting on an answer. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Who can I complain to? His boss? The local realtor association? I've even thought about seeing if the owner of the house still has his institutional email address. Ideas?

Re: LTE 2.0
I finally heard back from the property manager. They are forcing me to pay out the lease in its entirety but want to start showing. Won't let me sublet, either. They are NOT going to double dip at my expense. I'm just going to store my furniture here until I can afford to buy up there. Seriously. What an unreasonable asshole.

Not being privy to the terms of the lease, or to the terms of the management agreement between the owner and the property manager, I'd say that using your current place as a storage unit is about the best you can do.ArkieDukie wrote:I finally heard back from the property manager. However, you should talk to your insurance agent since the premises will be unoccupied to make certain that your renter's insurance is still valid when you're not there.
**edited to add: Most leases provide that if the tenant "quits" the lease early, that the landlord has permission to show the premises in an effort to mitigate the damages from a broken lease. So, if the landlord wants to show the property while you're still in there, it means that the landlord is looking to put someone else in the lease before your time is out. You should not be responsible for paying for the lease when another tenant is in there. (Again, I haven't read your particular lease. I'm just relying on experience. . . )

You don't hold onto a stock when it's time to sell it just for tax purposes. That's a great way to lose the profit you were trying to keep. When it's time to move on, you move on. Don't miss out on your opportunit because of some stinkin' condo.ArkieDukie wrote:My property manager is a slug. My future boss is holding my offer letter until I get an answer regarding my lease. Yes, this is accurate. I have to pay the lease until they find a new tenant. He was saying that I had to pay it out regardless, even if they found a tenant, until I pointed out that it isn't legal to "double dip" in Texas. Then he changed his tune.CathyCA wrote:Not being privy to the terms of the lease, or to the terms of the management agreement between the owner and the property manager, I'd say that using your current place as a storage unit is about the best you can do.ArkieDukie wrote:I finally heard back from the property manager. Missed the game last night as I went to a middle school production of The Little Mermaid. Will take a break at work today and watch the semi finals.
