On Monday, Red Star Belgrade hosted Game 2 of the finals with DeMarcus Nelson among several players suspended for their roles in the Game 1 brawl. Partizan Belgrade took the lead early and held off a small second half charge to win 82-62 and even up the series. Charles Jenkins stepped into DeMarcus's role and had 17 points and 6 rebounds. In the win, Davis Bertans, the 42nd pick of the Indiana Pacers in 2011 before a draft day trade to the San Antonio Spurs, had 14 points.

On Thursday, DeMarcus Nelson and all the other suspended players returned for Game 3 of the finals, which was played in an empty arena because of fans behavior in Partizan's last home game. The team led early as they look to take the series lead, but could not keep it and fell 77-67. DeMarcus had 16 points in 36 minutes. In the win, ex-NBA player Sasha Pavlovic had 16 points and Joffrey Lauvergne, the 55th pick of the last draft by the Memphis Grizzlies before a draft day trade to the Denver Nuggets, had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

DeMarcus may return to the team for another year, but he has also drawn attention from some of the elite teams around Europe.

Last Sunday, Nick Horvath and the Manawatu Jets finished their season with a 112-76 win over the Super City Rangers. Nick had 22 points and 14 rebounds in 30 minutes. Paul Jones had 26 points and 8 rebounds and Brandon Jenkins had 13 points and 11 assists. In the loss, ex-NAIA player Cameron Stuart had 12 points. Given Nick's contributions after he missed the first eight games due to an injury, the team must wonder what would have happened with better health. Nick again proved to be one of the top post players in the league and now looks to make an impression in training camp for the national team.

Jamal Boykin's long and adventurous season came to an end with a loss in the semifinals in New Zealand. Jamal started the season with a short-term contract in Germany to fill in for an injured player. Once that deal ran out, he found a place in Ukraine, where he was playing well before issues in the country disrupted the league. While Jamal stayed longer than most of the foreign and premier domestic players, he was looking for another place to play and earn a living and he was able to leave for New Zealand. Jamal was a key player for the Nelson Giants, finishing 7th in the league in scoring. He did so extremely efficiently, with the fourth highest free throw percentage and the fifth highest two point percentage, making the second most two point baskets in the league and finishing fifth in the overall efficiency index that takes into account all statistics. Jamal will soon be ready to find his next place to play as he has already experienced the professional game in seven different countries during his career.
Here are his statistics in New Zealand:

On Friday, Kathleen Scheer and the Hobart Chargers had their final regular season game when they hosted the Frankston Blues. The team would clinch the top spot in the division with a win, but they fell behind early in this game and could not complete a comeback in a 66-63 loss. Kathleen finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds in 36 minutes. In the win, ex-Washington player Nicole Romeo had 23 points and ex-Gonzaga player Kelly Bowen had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

On Saturday, the Norwood Flames started the playoffs without Jess Foley. As the first place team, they had a bye last week and would advance to the final with a win. Unfortunately they did not have the depth while shorthanded and lost 67-65 to the Sturt Sabres. Now they will need to take the long path to a championship. Amy Lewis tried to carry the team again, finishing with 27 points. Ex-Notre Dame player Natalie Novosel had 20 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

On Friday, Kathleen Scheer and the Hobart Chargers started the playoffs. As the third place team in their division, they hosted the first game against the fourth place team, the Kilsyth Cobras, with the losing team eliminated. It looked like their season might end after a poor first half, but the team roared back in the second half to win 64-57 to move on to the next round. Kathleen led her team with 20 points and added 7 rebounds in 37 minutes. Izzy Chilcott had 13 points and Klara Wischer had 12 points. In the loss, ex-Texas player Yvonne Anderson had 21 points and 8 rebounds, ex-St. Mary's player Louella Tomlinson had 15 points, and ex-Fresno State player Rosie Moult had 12 points and 6 rebounds.

On Saturday, Jess Foley was still out injured as the Norwood Flames tried to return to the championship game, but they could not keep up with the North Adelaide Rockets in the second half and lost 81-72 to end the season. Amy Lewis had 21 points and 7 rebounds as she continued to try to carry the team without Jess. Jess was a big contributor to the team while healthy and they looked to be rolling through the league again, but without her, they were no longer invincible and did not manage to win in the postseason. Amidst her studies, she will be slated to stay in Adelaide for the national league season which is a couple of months away.

Looking forward to seeing Haley's name mentioned in your posts, she was recently signed to Universitario de Ferrol in Spain. I wonder if she'll be checking in on any of the FIBA tournament.

I think it may be a bumper year in terms of players to track. We have the five graduating players from the Women's Team who are all looking to play professionally. There were a couple of players who did not play overseas last season that maybe looking to get back. Josh has signed overseas and maybe Andre or Seth joins him.

On Sunday while it was still late Saturday in the United States, Kathleen Scheer and the Hobart Chargers played for the league championship. They jumped out to an early lead on the Brisbane Spartans, but could not get their shots to keep falling and lost 75-59. Kathleen had 9 points in 34 minutes. Izzy Chilcott had 11 points and Klara Wischer had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Kathleen stayed healthy for this SEABL season, allowing her to play in all of the games and it showed as she scored the fifth most points and grabbed the fifth most rebounds in the league and blocked the second most shots. Now she gets ready to make the quick transition from state league play back to the national league, where she will team up with Jess Foley in Adelaide.

Our first update to the new season as they also return in article form on the front page (easy for liking on Facebook).

On Saturday, Josh Hairston made his professional competitive debut. Josh's first team after finishing at Duke is Massagno. His teammates include ex-Bowling Green player Auston Calhoun, ex-Valparaiso player Erik Buggs, fellow rookie Jake Thomas from Marquette, and ex-Kansas City Community College player Evrard Atcho. They had a rough first game against Geneva, losing 103-56. Josh had 7 points in 32 minutes before fouling out. Calhoun led the team with 16 points and 7 rebounds and Atcho added 10 points. In the win, ex-UNLV player Chace Stanback had 14 points and ex-James Madison player Juwann James had 13 points.
Here is the boxscore:

Daniel Ewing made his season debut after returning to France. After not having a destination lined up with season starting around the world, several teams became interested in the past week as they needed to sign injury replacements and he opted to join Le Mans Sarthe. His teammates include ex-NBA player Rodrigue Beaubois, whose injury led to Daniel being signed, ex-Villanova player Mouphtaou Yarou, ex-Oklahoma player Romero Osby, ex-Nevada player Armon Johnson, ex-Evansville player Shy Ely, and ex-Mississippi State player Michal Ignerski. In this game, they built a big lead at Dijon, only to collapse in the final quarter to lose 80-79. Daniel had 11 points in 28 minutes and Ignerski had 19 points. In the win, ex-Florida player Erving Walker had 28 points, ex-Gonzaga player Steven Gray had 13 points, ex-NAIA player Zach Moss had 11 points, and ex-Fairleigh Dickinson player Andre Harris had 10 points and 6 rebounds.

On Sunday, Tricia Liston started her first season in Italy, playing for Cagliari on the island of Sardinia. Joining her is her fellow Minnesota Lynx rookie Asia Taylor from Louisville, with ex-William and Mary player Emily Correal and ex-Washington player Beatrice Carta also on the team. The first round of games in the Italian league are all played in the same place and they lost a close game 75-72 to Venezia. Tricia had 19 points and 7 rebounds in 33 minutes. Taylor had with 27 points and 9 rebounds. In the win, ex-Charlotte player Shannon McCallum had 10 points and 7 rebounds.
Here is the boxscore:

Marty Pocius and Nolan Smith got to play a competitive game as teammates for the first time since being teammates at Duke. Both players joined Galatasaray in Turkey this offseason, a team that will be looking to have good seasons both domestically and in the EuroLeague. Their teammates include ex-Florida International and longtime NBA player Carlos Arroyo, ex-Saint Louis player Ian Vougioukas, ex-Midland Community College and brief NBA player Nate Jawai, Sinan Guler, who went to NAIA school Carroll College, and Furkan Aldemir, who was drafted 53rd in 2012 by the Los Angeles Clippers before a pair of trades moved his rights to the Philadelphia 76ers. Their first game was part of the Turkish Cup, which starts before the domestic league season with three games for each team in a group stage. They beat Konyaspor 78-71 to start the season on a winning note. Nolan had 9 points in 28 minutes before fouling out and Marty had 2 points in 18 minutes. Arroyo led the team with 19 points and 6 assists and Aldemir had 15 points and 10 rebounds. In the loss, ex-New Mexico player Troy DeVries had 26 points and 6 assists, ex-Boston College player Sean Williams had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and former Illinois-Chicago player Josh Mayo had 13 points.

On Monday, Marty and Nolan helped the team qualify for the next round of the Turkish Cup by holding off Gaziantep 72-70. Nolan led all scorers with 20 points and added 9 rebounds in 37 minutes and Marty had 12 points in 34 minutes. In the loss, ex-Colorado player Cory Higgins had 16 points, ex-Indiana player Earl Calloway had 13 points and 8 assists, ex-UNC player Jawad Williams had 12 points, and ex-Syracuse player Paul Harris had 11 points and 7 rebounds.

On Tuesday, the first stage of the Turkish Cup was finished with Nolan being the only one to play in the meaningless game as Marty and a number of players were rested officially for injury concerns. They ended up losing 97-80 to already eliminated Usak as the lack of depth hurt them in the second half, but will get to take revenge in the league opener. Nolan was given the keys to the offense and had 13 points and 6 rebounds in 30 minutes before fouling out. Furkan Aldemir had 15 points and 9 rebounds. In the win, ex-Creighton player Justin Carter had 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, ex-Ole Miss player Chris Warren had 18 points, and ex-Georgia State player Eric Buckner had 15 points and 6 rebounds.

On Thursday, Panathinaikos started their season with DeMarcus Nelson not in Greece. An injury he suffered in the team's preseason practices was initially thought to be fixable by rest, but instead he returned to the United States to undergo surgery on his right shin, prolonging the period he will need to recover. DeMarcus made a big move to the Greek powerhouse over the summer, where his teammates include ex-Maryland player James Gist, ex-Western Kentucky player A. J. Slaughter, ex-NBA player Esteban Batista and Antonis Fotsis, 2006 57th pick of the Minnesota Timberwolves Loukas Mavrokefalidis, and Georgios Papagiannis, who attended Westtown High School in Pennsylvania with the original intention of playing collegiately in the United States before signing a professional contract. Their first game was a difficult test, a single elimination Greek Cup quarterfinal game with hated rivals Olympiakos. While they are not the subject of usual updates, players who started their college careers at Duke before transferring to another school do get the occasional mention.
