FDA returns?

Post by dpslaw » May 25th, 2014, 7:18 pm

Check out the Wallace Wade renovations thread over at TDD. I've been jousting with SouthFloridaDevil, who I'm convinced is the latest incarnation of FormerDukeAthlete. Fun stuff!

As far as I know, he's not banned OY. I think he's in a self imposed exile. Not surprisingly, on TDD he refuses to back down on his claim that the renovation will be a complete disaster unless the field is lowered 15 to 20 feet.

I'm tempted to remind him of his relentless promotion of Asack over Thad.

I've met FDA in real life. He lives in the NYC area. I last emailed with him last December. I could ask him if it is he, but I doubt it. :9f:

No, I'm surprised that there is another pompous blowhard fond of exactly the same sweeping generalizations and implied access to secret knowledge.

If you want to press all the right/wrong buttons, tell FDA/FDA wannabe that if they lower it 15-20 feet, then they need to put in a track. =)) :)) :ymdevil:

So at the risk of firing up a debate ... what is the logic (sound or otherwise) in lowering the field?

Oh, it's very sound. If the track is taken out and the field is lowered five to six feet, then the bowl can be extended downward and toward the field by six to 10 rows. But FDA insists that the field should be lowered 15 to 20 feet, and 16 to 20 rows of new seating should be added. He refuses to understand that if the field is centered within the oval and 16 to 20 rows added, there wouldn't be enough space for a full-sized football field.

So FDA lacks a basic understanding of high school geometry? The 'bowl' is essentially an elliptical cone (which probably has an official name in the mathverse that I don't know)...it must get smaller as it goes down...and somewhere it reaches a point where the transverse diameter is less than required for a football field. I get it. Geometry rules.

Perhaps the rules are different in his universe :D

upon further review, an elliptical cone is called....an elliptical cone.

I was hoping for a cool name. Rhombus is a cool name.

I thought FDA lives in Florida or somewhere south of Durham.
