Awhom, thanks for the updates. ^:)^ I also like reading about where our alumni are, and other players whose names I remember as well.

I'm sure you mentioned this previously, but I missed it. Why was Daniel Ewing suspended? (Excessive technicals due to ACC referees was my first snarky thought....) :9f:

Thank you for reading.

A month ago Daniel got into a verbal altercation with an opponent that escalated into a bench-clearing brawl. Since he was considered one of the instigators, he got the second biggest suspension of six games plus the game between the incident and when the French authorities could be bothered to set up a disciplinary hearing. The fight included Jawad Williams putting an opponent (John Holland who went to Boston University) in a headlock, which resulted in a ban for over three months. Already without one Tarheel, the team decided to find a way to terminate his contract.

On Monday, Marty Pocius and Zalgiris Kaunas returned to domestic league play and continued the trend of altering the lineup with negative consequences as they lost 81-73. Marty had 2 points in 12 minutes. Justin Dentmon had 18 points and 7 rebounds and Robertas Javtokas had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

On Tuesday, David McClure and Siauliai had a domestic league game against Dzukija and eased to an 87-47 win. David had 6 points and 7 rebounds in 26 minutes. Travis Leslie, the ex-Georgia player who is the latest addition to the team, had 16 points and 7 rebounds and Chris Cooper had 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Alana Beard and the Shinhan Bank S-Birds lost 74-63 to Woori Bank Hansae. Alana had 9 points and 7 rebounds in 16 minutes and Shekinna Stricklen had 12 points and 8 rebounds. On Wednesday, DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade went to Greece for a EuroCup game against Panionios and built a lead in the final quarter for a 78-66 win. DeMarcus had 14 points in 29 minutes and Charles Jenkins added 10 points and 7 assists. In the loss, ex-UNC Wilmington player Marc Carter and ex-NAIA player Errick McCollum had 15 points.

Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb went to Turkey to take on Besiktas and managed to grind out a 58-55 win with no players scoring in double figures. Nolan had a particularly difficult game as he went scoreless before fouling out after playing 17 minutes. In the loss, ex-Tennessee player Chris Lofton had 11 points, rookie Ryan Broekhoff from Valparaiso had 10 points and 7 rebounds, and rookie Colton Iverson, who was drafted 53rd by the Indiana Pacers out of Colorado State before a draft day trade to the Boston Celtics, had 10 points.

Monique Currie and the KB Stars beat KEB-Hanabank 73-59. Monique had 20 points and 7 rebounds in just under 20 minutes. The margin throughout the game let Marissa Coleman play more than half of the game to give Monique a rest and she had 10 points and 6 rebounds before fouling out. Krystal Thomas and Perfumerias Avenida hosted Kibirkstis of Lithuania in a EuroLeague Women game and took control in the second quarter to ease to a 97-70 win. Krystal had 11 points and 11 rebounds in 17 minutes. Shay Murphy had 32 points and 7 rebounds, Angelica Robinson had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Leonor Rodriguez had 12 points.

Karima Christmas and Maccabi Ramat Hen closed out the first stage of the Israeli League season against Maccabi Ashdod and built a lead in what would have been an impressive win before falling late and losing 66-61. Karima had 18 points and 15 rebounds in 39 minutes as she looked to lock up the lead in rebouding in the league. Ashley Shields had 21 points and Brittany Denson had 11 points and 8 rebounds. In the win, ex-Texas player Tiffany Jackson had 24 points and 9 rebounds, ex-Texas A&M player Danielle Adams had 11 points and 8 rebounds, and ex-Stanford player Candice Wiggins had 10 points.

Things looked promising again early but the team fell behind and could not catch up, losing 90-83. Marty kept his team in the game leading all scorers with 26 points in 34 minutes. Robertas Javtokas added 21 points and 9 rebounds. In the loss, ex-Florida International player Carlos Arroyo had 22 points and 9 assists, Cenk Aykol, the 59th pick of the Atlanta Hawks in 2009, had 13 points, and Milan Macvan, the 54th pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2011, had 11 points.

EuroLeague Women had most of their games on Wednesday this week including a Group A game in Turkey, where hosts Kayseri used a strong second half to beat Beretta Famila of Italy 68-53. In the win, ex-Penn State player Tanisha Wright had 17 points and 10 rebounds, ex-WNBA player Nuria Martinez had 12 points and 6 assists and the ex-UNC duo chipped in as LaToya Pringle, also known by the Turkish version of her married name Lara Sanders, had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Camille Little had 11 points. In the loss, ex-Gonzaga player Courtney Vandersloot had 12 points.

In Group B, Russia's Nadezhda Orenburg beat Imos Brno of the Czech Republic 86-58 at home. After already spending an extra day in Ukraine to get to the game, they also decided to play an extra five minutes of basketball, prevailing 68-65 in overtime. On Tuesday, Shelden Williams and Tianjin returned from the New Year's break and resumed their hunt for the playoffs by breaking open their game with Zhejiang in the second half to win 128-108. A pair of ex-WNBA players helped out the usual cast of stars in the win as Sandrine Gruda had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Ewelina Kobryn had 13 points to go along with 11 points and 6 rebounds for Diana Taurasi and 10 points and 6 rebounds for Candace Parker. WNBA player Farhiya Abdi had 22 points and 9 rebounds in the loss. France's Bourges beat Kayseri of Turkey 75-54 at home. Groups B and C were busy in EuroLeague Women action this week. In Group C, Czech team USK Prague beat Polkowice of Poland 63-46 at home. In the win, ex-Rutgers player Kia Vaughn had 10 points and 7 rebounds while ex-NAIA player Valeriya Musina had 15 points in the loss. On Saturday, Kathleen Scheer finished her first WNBL season as the Sydney University Flames beat the West Coast Waves 79-54. Kathleen had 3 points in 14 minutes to complete a solid season at this level after injuries cut her season short last year. Lasondra Barrett had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

On Saturday, Krystal Thomas and Perfumerias Avenida played in the semifinal of the Copa de la Reina. As a top four team after the first half of the season, they were entered into the Queen's Cup and drew a tough opponent in Gran Canaria, but fought their way to the final with a 66-58 with a good fourth quarter effort. Krystal had 7 points and 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. Shay Murphy had 19 points and 8 rebounds and Angelica Robinson had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Rookie Chelsea Davis from Florida State had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Chante Black and Umbertide had to face powerhouse Famila Schio for a second week in a row as they returned to domestic league competition and fell 93-58. On Monday, Marty Pocius and Zalgiris Kaunas returned to domestic league play with an easy 85-71 win over Juventus. Marty had 11 points in 23 minutes. Robertas Javtokas had 15 points and 9 rebounds. In the loss, ex-DIII player A.J. Matthew had 18 points.
