Latvian and Cypriot beer... I wonder what they have.

Thanks for all your hard work in providing these updates, awhom!

I'm pleased to see Nolan Smith doing so well overseas. It stinks that he never made it off the bench in Portland. Euroleague is giving him a chance to show that he's got game. Of course, we already knew that.

As an aside, any time I see that he led the team in scoring, I can't help but think "Nolan F-ing Smith!" :happy-bouncyblue: :happy-bouncyblue: :9f:

The season has just started, but I think Nolan has made a really good choice of team. It is not one of the top ones in Europe, not participating in EuroLeague, but he is clearly the best player on the team and has been given the keys to the offense. It is good to see him getting the chance to get his share of shots. There is probably more adjusting to do, but he can certainly make a career for himself playing basketball as a valuable contributor to a team.

On Wednesday, EuroLeague Women, the top international club competition for women started as 20 teams played in 3 groups. While many of the best players in the world play in the competition with WNBA players joining overseas teams during their offseason, each team is limited to two non-European players with some American and other foreigners taking passports from European countries to not count against the limit. In Group A, which has 6 teams, Slovakia's Good Angels Kosice went to Turkey and knocked off Kayseri 77-69 with a strong fourth quarter. In the win, ex-Texas Tech player Plenette Pierson had 33 points and 12 rebounds, ex-West Virginia player Yelena Leuchanka had 13 points and 8 rebounds, and WNBA player Farhiya Abdi had 10 points. A couple of former UNC players had big games in the loss as Camille Little had 26 points and 7 rebounds and LaToya Pringle, who also goes by the Turkish version of her married name, Lara Sanders, had 13 points and 6 rebounds, and ex-Penn State player Tanisha Wright added 21 points and 6 rebounds. There was one more Group A game on Thursday as defending champions and heavy favorites UMMC Ekaterinburg of Russia traveled to Hungary and overwhelmed Gyor 101-43. It was a game of contrasts as the Russian teams boasts a roster brimming with talent and experience as on any given European game, they must choose to bench one of either Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, and Candace Parker. On the flip side, Gyor is coming off of a terrible preseason tragedy that gave them a tough decision about whether they even wanted to proceed with their season and forced them to overhaul their roster to account for all of the resulting injuries and retirements. In this game, it was Diana Taurasi who was left off of the roster so Candace Parker had 17 points and 9 rebounds and Sue Bird had 13 points and 8 assists. They got more help from ex-WNBA players as Anete Jekabsone had 18 points, Sandrine Gruda had 15 points, and Ewelina Kobryn had 12 points and 6 rebounds. Ex-Gonzaga player Courtney Vandersloot, who was Gyor's most high profile replacement signing, had 13 points in the loss.
