I saw the wound care specialist for the first time this afternoon. She thoroughly cleaned out the wound, soaked it in a solution of some sort of medication (she soaked a gauze pad in it and then applied that to the wound for about ten minutes), and then packed it (this involves packing a long, thin strip of what looked like a gauze like material that has been soaked in a medication of some sort into the wound) before putting a fresh bandage over it (and I believe she said that that bandage has Ibuprofen in it to help deal with the pain in the area). I have to see her every two days for the next couple of weeks and then we'll revisit the treatment schedule at that time.

She measured the wound and said it is 1cm long by 0.7cm wide, by 1.2cm deep. She said there was a tunnel in the wound which I assume means that it runs away from the wound or something. I should have asked her exactly what she meant by that but I was asking her about something else at the time and forgot to ask about the tunnel thing.

Here's an article about tunneling. I saw a few of those in PA school. Not fun, but they can be healed with lots of care. More vibes to you, buddy. I wish you weren't going through this. http://www.polymem.com/pearls/pearls4practice0209.pdf

Ouch! This sounds massively painful, colchar. Sending another round of vibes and antimicrobial shin-kicks. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

I'm thankful you have a wound care specialist to help you look after things. From what you've described, it's good to have an expert around to make sure the wound is healing as it should. All in all, though, this does not sound like a fun time for you. Hopefully the ordeal will end sooner rather than later.

I have a pretty high tolerance for pain but at a couple of points when she was cleaning out the wound, especially when she was dealing with the tunneled part of it, I damned near hit the ceiling. That was obviously because she had an instrument stuck up there but damn, it hurt.

Colchar your treatment sounds all too familiar! DukeRah had the same such thing going on with an open wound about the size of a football in her abdomen. The good news is that when it does finally start to close up, it goes much quicker than you would imagine. You don't have to be so brave! Have them give you something for pain before they begin each new redressing.

This WILL come to an end. CTN vibes are powerful, powerful things!!!!!!!!

Oh I hope so as I am becoming more and more frustrated with this thing.

The ankle is aching, even just when lying down, and Tylenol #3s aren’t relieving it at all.

And it is still weeping badly as I can see that it has soaked through the padding in this dressing and there is a stain visible just below the plastic surface of the dressing. It hasn’t made it through that plastic surface yet, but there is a steadily growing stain on the dressing which indicates that it is still weeping badly.

I guess I can't expect miracles after only one visit to the wound care specialist but that appointment had made me more hopeful. I've come back to earth today though.

Thanks, hopefully it will look a tiny bit better when she removes the dressing at tomorrow's appointment.
