Conner Vernon was on the basketball team?

I think I'd go with Tyler Thornton. While he may not be the largest guy on the team, he's one of the toughest defenders.

Ooh - good answer! I was thinking player and didn't even think about coaching staff. K is a great choice, as are 2 of my favorite former players/assistants. Who to pick: Wojo or Nate?

While Nate surely has the qualities I'd look for -- toughness, courage, leadership skills, smarts and no "it's all about himself" attitude, I was really wondering which of the players you guys thought had the most of that. Which one would you have the most trust in to get you out safely? If each one stood in front of you and said "Follow me, I'll get us out." which one would you fall in behind?

I've pondered this question a bit. Almost everyone on that team has the mental smarts and physical agility to fend off a variety of bad situations. They seem to have embraced the "fist" as a concept of team. I think they understand the idea of "leave no man behind." I'd feel safe with any of them.

I've also gotten to know some of the managers.... they're resourceful and can blend in.... good to have around if you need backup! I'd take the senior managers anytime to deal with difficult situations.

So, yeah, Tyler:

If you’re China, this is the guy you don’t want to see in the fight. Thornton is a classic self-preserver, excelling despite his height and limited ability. When someone like him ends up at Duke, it really says something; he knows how to get shit done. So when the brawl started, he’d disappear. If you saw his initial movements, you’d think he was a coward. But he’d be circling around, waiting for the right moment, and then he’d become absolute hell for the enemy. The minute any Chinese player engaged a Dukie, he’d have like 5 seconds before Thornton hit him from behind in the balls or kidney. By the time they turned around, he’d be gone. He’d spend most of the fight crawling between people’s knees. At the end of the fight, Thornton would be the one guy with no bruises and who wasn’t having any kind of adrenaline rush. He’s the definition of a dude who can handle himself.

If we're going everyone — coaches included — Wojo.

Thornton is my first pick, too. I just didn't want to say so until others had chimed in. I remember an old Al McGuire statement regarding Kenny Dennard. "Give me four Dennards and one star and I'll win you the NC every time." I think the same might be said for Tyler Thornton.

Alex Murphy because of the nasty dunks he laid down this season. Everyone else seems like a known quantity, so enemies would be able to exploit their weaknesses. I think Alex could be a secret weapon.
