Re: Hurricane Sandy
This is a bit selfish but am certainly glad this waited til we had left the area! Can't imagine the Outer Banks or any part of our trip would've been as wonderful in a hurricane! But then experiencing a hurricane would've been a new experience for us as well so who knows! All of you out there stay safe!

Re: Hurricane Sandy
Judging from the weather alerts posted for North Carolina today, the coast isn't the only area on alert. Forty-five of the 100 counties have weather alerts posted. Many mountain counties are expecting not only high winds, but varying amounts of wet snow, sleet and/or ice through Wednesday. A few freeze warnings have been issued as well.

I'm glad OzzieDaughter isn't living in the "high country" anymore. Of course, they went to a wedding in Baltimore this weekend and are driving home on I-95 now. }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:Judging from the weather alerts posted for North Carolina today, the coast isn't the only area on alert. Drive safely Mr. and Mrs. Ozzie Daughter! I've had a cozy weekend hibernating on Emerald Isle. We've had steady, but not extreme, rain and wind since Friday afternoon. So far, so good.

Vibes for Ozziedaughter and OzzieSIL on their drive home. Bob Green, batten down the hatches!
Vibes for everyone else in the storm path. Here in lovely Belews Creek, it's overcast and a little breezy but we ate lunch outside.

It isn't just people on the coast who are in this thing's path - it is expected to nail us here in Ontario as well. Depending on which path it takes over land it will either come basically right over top of me or to the east of me. Either way, we are in for a pasting. And the three weather systems that are converging are eerily similar to Hurricane Hazel which really pasted the Toronto area back in 1954.

That is what I think everytime Sandy hits the news. I pray it clears out of the way and leaves a beautiful sunny day for a beautiful couple.TillyGalore wrote:Better this weekend than next weekend.

I talked to my Mom in Chesapeake, Virginia. She is fine. The power is on. She doesn't live too close to any major bodies of water, so as long as her power stays on, she should be okay.

It appears the only significant effect the storm will have on things is our little honeymoon. We are supposed to go to Hatteras for a few days, I'm a little worried there won't be a highway to get there. If the highway is washed out, we'll just have to go another time. No biggie.

It isn't too bad here in Norfolk. Lots of rain with some wind, but nothing bad yet. I'm staying home today as the base has shut down operations for the day.lawgrad91 wrote:I talked to my Mom in Chesapeake, Virginia. She is fine. The power is on. Re: Hurricane Sandy
Well unfortunately some dumbass captain decided to take the HMS Bounty (replica of the original and used in lots of movies) out in the storm and it just sank off the coast of Hatteras. 14 rescued, 2 still missing. The Graveyard of the Atlantic takes in another permanent resident.
