FIU Game discussion

Post by Bob Green » August 21st, 2012, 4:30 pm

What the hell, it's time to start a FIU game discussion thread. Here is a season preview on the Panthers:
But the biggest key to the Golden Panthers' success remains its stout defense, which should take another big step forward this season after showing great improvement from 2010 to 2011. The strength of that unit is making FIU one of the early favorites to win the Sun Belt,

FIU ran the ball very well against us last season so our suspect defensive line will be tested early. We need to stop their running game early or the defense will be some tired dudes by the 4th quarter. Kedrick Rhodes is their featured running back.

I hope it does not come down to Anthony Boone winning the game with a goal line run. That will piss me off for the rest of the season, and I will wear a button that says "fire Roper".

More info on FIU from the Miami Herald:

The Golden Panthers desire to play at a fast pace to wear down the opponent. Plus, their stout defense is gaining depth via impressive freshmen:

Predictions are always fun: Duke 27 - FIU 24. We win on the strength of Ross Martin's leg. The fun part of predictions is revisiting the prediction on Sunday morning to review how stupid I am. =))

Ugh...this one is soooo hard to even come up with numbers for, much less who wins. I'd feel better if I knew we were healthy. I'm still (of course) giving us the win, and I think you could be very correct about legs winning the day. They seem to have a way of setting the tone for our seasons early on; this one looks like it could go the same way.
I still give us a healthier lead though...Duke 34 - FIU 27.

Duke is a 4 point favorite with the over/under now up to 52.5 points:

The over/under opened at 48 so it appears the gamblers are laying down money on the over.

The Miami Herald has an article up discussing the importance of FIU doing a better job this year rushing the passer:

Coach Cristobal gives our offensive line kudos for protecting Renfree. The article states the key match-up will be Duke OTs Cofield and Simmons against FIU DEs Tourek Williams, Greg Hickman and Paul Crawford.

Thanks. I love reading articles from the other schools' cities. That's a good one...this game is making me more and more nervous. I think it's going to be a very close contest. (that we still win by a TD)

There is lots of FIU coverage at the Miami Herald:

The game on Saturday should be a good one.

Hey everyone! Haven't posted in a long time but I am truly sad I missed the FIU game the other night. It was the first home opener that I missed since 2003. Heck of a win for the boys though. I think the Sean/Conner combination is going to be the best in the ACC this year.

Stanford is really down this year and I will not be surprised if the game comes down to the last possesion or two. If Duke can slow down the rushing offense of Stanford, then they have a legitimate chance. I want to thank our Tailgate Guru for doing running the cookout at my high school graduation party, and I can't wait for the Memphis game, (sadly I will miss the Central game as well).

GO DUKE!!!

Hey, good to hear from you! Jamison Crowder was very impressive in the season opener, which really helped the Sean/Conner connection. We have a legitimate threat on both sides of the field. I'm looking forward to talking with you at the Memphis game. Now go study!!!
