It all looks great, but only one tailgate in November, that's a bummer.

Well, that's a thought. They drink a lot in Charlottesville. It's the only way they can get through football season. They get good players and then do nothing with them.

SEPTEMBER
3 – RICHMOND - Probable Win
10 – STANFORD Probable Loss
17 – at Boston College - Toss Up
24 – TULANE (4-8) - Probable Win

OCTOBER
1 – at Florida International - Probable Win
8 – Open
15 – FLORIDA STATE - Probable Loss
22 – WAKE FOREST - Toss Up
29 – VIRGINIA TECH - Probable Loss

NOVEMBER
5 – at Miami - Probable Loss, but best chance for upset
12 – at Virginia - Toss Up
19 – GEORGIA TECH - Toss Up
26 – at North Carolina - Toss Up, but hardest toss up to win

3 probable wins, 4 probable losses, and 5 toss ups
If we're 3-1 in September, we have a great chance at a bowl. Otherwise...I think the odds don't look good.

We are going to have to win multiple games on the road this season (as well as taking care of business at home). Three games to circle on our calendar are @ Boston College, @ Florida International and @ Virginia. We need to win those games.

Hard for me to find more than 4 wins on the schedule this year, unless we begin to prove we can win on the road. Here's hoping that last year's Navy game was a step in the right direction. FIU in particular is a trap of sorts. I don't think the average fan realizes the strides they've made in recent seasons, and to beat them on the road will be tough.

I agree. FIU was 7-6 with a Bowl Game victory last year. For us to go to their stadium and win we will need to play a strong game. In fact, all three road games I said we should circle on the calendar will be tough victories. Boston College is tough and Virginia will be motivated to not lose to us for the third straight year.

Richmond, Tulane and Wake Forest at home are must win games.

We have four tough home games: Stanford, Florida State, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech. I'm not sure how good Georgia Tech will be in 2011. They struggled last year (6-7) and could be worse this season. Our best chance for an upset is against GT.

It looks like a 5-7 season to me unless the team really improves in leaps and bounds over last year, which is possible. One game at a time and it all starts against Richmond,

I think we need a statement game this year. When we beat NC state in 2009 it was a big deal because it wasn't really expected. We need another one like that and I think you are right, Georgia Tech could be ripe for a Duke win. With that said, by the time those teams play, we'll have a much different feel for how winnable it really is. That's part of why I think the first 4 games are so important. If we're 2-2 going into the Florida game, I think it'll be tougher than if we're 3-1. Getting on a role and playing well makes a huge difference.

Had we beaten Wake, no matter how ugly...I don't think we lose to Army. Then coming down the stretch we have a completely different outlook on the second half of the season. Maybe we win at Maryland, Boston College, or Miami. It also means you play Navy and VA differently, so maybe those results change. Overall, I think we would've been heading to a bowl if it wasn't for key mishaps in the Wake game. Confidence makes a big difference in a game of inches.

Blue Devil Nation has an in depth look at the 2011 schedule posted:

http://bluedevilnation.net/2011/02/foot ... -schedule/

The article contains some encouraging words re my favorite football statistic: turnover margin. Maryland and NC State are cited as examples of programs who were much improved in 2010 due to a drastically improved turnover margin. This is an area where Duke must improve in 2011.

This is a good article looking at Duke's bowling chances this year. Each game on our schedule is given a quick breakdown.
The schedule isn’t easy, especially with Stanford visiting and Florida State on tap from the ACC’s other division. But Duke also misses Clemson, Maryland and N.C. State from the Atlantic, so if reaching six wins is the goal, that’s not a bad tradeoff.

This may help our chances in week 2, one of the starting safeties for BC has been given the boot.
