PC Security - advice needed

Post by August West » May 8th, 2011, 5:26 pm

I currrently have McAfee which is set to expire soon. It costs around $ 50 per year. I signed up for TWC Road Runner about 6 months ago. They offer a free service called CA Internet Security Suite. My question is, is the free service OK or should I stay with McAfee or another pay service? All advice, suggestions, and information is appreciated. Thanks, AW. :D

I like AVG and find it has fewer conflicts with other programs. I learned about AVG from some English speaking costumer service reps for Dell back when they had great customer service. There's a free version, but the security package is well worth the cost.

CA supah sucks!! As in ultra-will-fuck-your-computer-up-in-a-blink-of-an-eye sucks. Avoid it like the plague and download AVG free. (Or the pay version.) The tech I work with actually likes Microsoft's new security suite as well, although I haven't tried it.

I run AVG as well. I did battle with CA a couple of times then shit canned it.

I had problems with AVG and switched to Microsoft Security Essentials which seemed to be alright until it wouldn't update properly. I read a bunch of reviews of security software and chose Comodo which seems to be working very well.

Free version of AVG.
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for spyware/malware.
