For those of you too lazy to read this article, it says Shaka Smart has a new contract at VCU.

It's gonna be same shit, different year for NC State. They will not score a major name for their coaching vacancy. They may still catch lightning in a bottle with an underappreciated new coach, but it won't be a big splash. They're mostly kidding themselves with regard to their assessment of their program's stature.

I think there was a typo in the article. They meant to write "...coaches have indicated strong indifference in the position."

He has the background, has had success, so we'll see what he turns out to be. I was more interested in the Yow vs. Williams banter in the press. Should make for an interesting game in Raleigh next year (doubt she would go back to College Park).

Don't be so quick to declare him nutty for saying such a thing. For one thing, he's a damned good coach. Second, there is probably no coach in the country for whom Miami could be a more perfect fit. Martin's parents immigrated here from Cuba. He is a fluent Spanish speaker, and has extensive ties throughout the Caribbean. Basketball has been rapidly growing in the region over the past decade, and a recruiting pipeline from places like Puerto Rico (which has performed very admirably in recent international competitions) to Miami could be a goldmine. Martin could transform the 'Canes basketball program into a formidable one. I for one would rather like to see him land there.

It will be interesting to see what domino effect will take place with the retiring of Maryland's Gary Williams. The ACC certainly has had alot of replacement coaches in the last 2 seasons.

Yeah, they'll flip out over this, but if they want to be honest with themselves, they'll realize that Maryland is unequivocally a better job.
Just as interesting to me is the question of who will take over at Arizona, which is likewise a very good job. Since the timing is pretty unusual, I suspect they'll promote from within (and perhaps affix an interim tag to their new coach). I think the job is too high-profile for any of our guys to get a serious look.

I'm not sure the Maryland job is any better than the Arizona job. But then I grew up in AZ. But I was never a home team fan and don't particularly like the Wildcats.
