Deadliest Catch

Post by windsor » April 13th, 2009, 3:44 pm

Just got an e-mail reminder that Deadliest Catch starts tomorrow. This show is my secret guilty pleasure.
Those guys are all insane. You would not get me out on one of those boats for love or money. Oh yes, and I love Edgar. He just rocks.

I saw Phil on an After the Catch and he was trying to quit smoking and he was drinking soda....hopefully that 'took' and he'll be OK.

I don't mean to sound callous, but you mean you're allowed to post about Deadliest Catch over there? ;)

I checked the Cornelia Marie blog - Captain Phil is at the helm for King Crab season, but apparently not for Opies. In other news, he's launched his own line of coffee (bet that will eat the bottom out of a ceramic mug in no time)!

Plus a blurb from on old article on:
Owner Cornelia Marie Devlin has worked in the fishing industry since 1979 and will work on the boat during the summer out of Bristol Bay, where it
serves as tender for the yearly salmon run. Owner and Captain Phil Harris has been working in the fishing industry for 30 years and Captain of the Cornelia Marie for 15 years; his two sons are part of the fiveman crew.

Explains the name of the boat (always thought it was an odd name)

I, too, love this show. It is not something I'd really consider for a job, but maybe I could do it because the $$$ is veeeery good. My favorite captain is Sig Hanson, but I also like the boat, Maverick. I just picked that one because I'm a Dallas Mavericks fan but Sig is by far my favorite captain.

I dont know what it is about this show, I mean they're just catching crabs right? Seems like it would get old after awhile but it never does. Awesome show, can't wait.

A friend of mine did that before I met him. He said it was worth the experience, but never again. Now the job is much more popular due to the TV show, and hard to get. I remember growing up though and reading ads in the paper for high school grads wanting summer jobs. That's how he did it. He did make pretty good cash, but it was a long trip to get there and back, plus the actual work itself.

I am convinced most of those dudes are jacked up on cocaine or meth on those 36-hour shifts. Given their smoking and drinking habits, their insane personalities, and the need to work absurd hours... gotsta be drugs on those boats.

Wouldn't shock me. Some truckers these days use so they can drive for an insanely long time to rack up more miles and hours.

Watching the behind the scenes show now. It's really fascinating to see how they film this.

The new season starts 4/12 - it begins with them scattering Captain Phils ashes.
