Re: Ymm, Beer!
I just saw another release of this at Total Wine and I believe I will have to procure another 4 pack and cellar it until this winter/next spring or longer. I may have a leftover from last fall but this stuff was so damned good that it may all be gone. I believe DFH has made this a year-round releas...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
My parents retired up to rural Maine a few years back (ignoring protests from my sister and I about the isolation)..My wife and I get up there to see them 5-7 times per year depending on the winter...Today, I discovered that this little gem is only about 10 minutes from their house. I am suddenly qu...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Found a new store today and picked by 2 by Avery--Samaels and Brabant, neither of which I've tried..which shall I have tonight? Which one was it? I went with the Brabant on Wednesday night and then had the Samaels last night...very interesting brews.. Brabant--I can't think of anything similar to c...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
First, the reason for the purchases. My wife and I have rented a house near Bar Harbor, Maine for a week this summer. I wanted to explore Maine products. Second, the initial choices. Two blueberry brews(it is Maine, after all). The first was brewed in Bar Harbor, the second was brewed by Seas Dog. ...

Found a new store today and picked by 2 by Avery--Samaels and Brabant, neither of which I've tried..which shall I have tonight? Depends. What do you have to do in the morning? The Brabant is a very limited release (<700 cases produced once), so if you enjoy it, it will be worth picking up other bot...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
OK, I'm calling rmd and bluebear out here. I bought a 6er of cans of Oskar Chub Blues Scottish Ale today at Total Wine, last one in the house, and they were out of the pale ale. This had better be good guys. I'm counting on some old reviews I remember one or both of you wrote. ;) :D I've definitely...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
It was an Avery weekend for me... Fri/Sat--Avery Maharaja--Double IPA..Extremely hoppy brew with very little malt balance. The strength of the citrusy hops made me feel like I was drinking grapefruit juice at times. Not overly bitter, however..A very dry double IPA. While I enjoyed the first half of...

I'll have to admit, it was some leftovers for me Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Anyone want to hear about the NC Commemorative Fat Tire bomber?

Re: Ymm, Beer!
I picked up some good stuff today. First a bottle of 2009 Avery Samael's Oak Aged Strong Ale. I still have several 2008 bottles stowed away, so I'll do a comparison at some point. Off the bat, '09 is a bit more potent (16.5% instead of 15.5%). I also got a bottle of 2009 Reserve Deschutes Mirror Mi...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Dogfish Head World Wide Stout-I have enjoyed 4 ounces of this each night for the last 3 nights in sherry/port glasses and this is just a great beverage. I say beverage because it really should not be called a beer. It is almost black, slightly oily, nearly uncarbonated and smooth as a JJ 3 pointer ...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Ballast Point Sculpin IPA---This could be the best single IPA I've had..It's a bit hefty at 7% for a single but still probably shy on an imperial. Pours dark straw with a decent size head..Pure smooth hops with lots of citrus and pine. There is a hint of malt for balance but the hops clearly domina...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
catching up on a few reviews... Oskar Blues Gordon--What a smooth double IPA...I was a little nervous about tasting the can but no hint of metal at all. Lots of citrusy hops but not overwhelmingly bitter. There is just the right amount of sweet malt for balance without washing out the hops. I found ...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Dogfish Head Immort Ale..excited to find a 4 pack of this at my local store. I've seen it described as a barleywine and as a strong ale and I'd probably go with the latter. An incredibly complex tasting beer. Pours a dark reddish brown...Taste starts off with sweet maple maltiness balanced with som...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA..If this wasn't the most bitter beer I've ever tired, it's very close. Pure grassy, citrus hops..While many other double IPAs have that slight sweet malt balance, this had none. It wasn't abrasive though, as there was a surprisingly smoothness to the hop bitterness. A v...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Stone Double Bastard..What a beer. Pours dark amber..Lots and lots of malt and hops. The hops dominate as there is a bitterness from start to finish but the undercurrent of sweet malts balances it well...very crisp and drinkable..especially for 10%. It's weight reminded me a lot of some barleywines...
