Re: Ymm, Beer!

I guess I thought of Midas Touch because I saw it today at Total Wine. You're right when you say it's tough to think of beverages like that as "beer." It's one of those beers that I see somewhat often but never pick up and it's been a while since I've had one..like I said, I need a refresher..I thi...

People's Pint Slippery Slope--My first braggot which as far as I can tell is like a weaker mead made with honey..the description of slippery slope is "A much awaited winter tradition; this is brewed in the style of an English "Braggert." Made with local apple cider, honey, barley malt and fresh gin...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Questions for bluebear and/or rmd-or anyone for that matter: Have you ever had any of the Eel River products? If so, which ones and what did you think of them? Have you tried any? A store near me has a decent selection in their organic beer section but I've yet to pull the trigger. I'll pick up a m...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Does a bluebear drink blue beer? Yes, that is the extent of my contribution to this thread. Okay, I may have inserted another random post or two in here. IDK, but I think bluebeer, err, bluebear (that's the 2nd time I've done that  ;) ) lives in Boston or nearby and might buy you a fine ale i...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Stone Old Crustacean--Ceramic growler--I love barleywines and this is no exception. Pours a thick dark reddish brown. It's very hoppy and bitter like other west coast barleywines but also has strong smoke and chocolate tastes. Almost no sweet malts. A big bold sipper and a bit like drinking whiskey...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Holy Hops! I just looked on our wine rack and found not one, but TWO bottles of World Wide Stout that our oldest daughter found today while she was cleaning out her room. I forget how old that stuff is as I didn't date my bottles that long ago and DFH does not put years on any of their brews. I'd b...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Stone 13th Anniversary---I've seen this called an imperial red and a strong ale..I'd consider it an super bold Double IPA...Pours dark brown (with mabe a bit of amber)..Huge pine hop taste. Fairly bitter though a little bit of toasted malt underneath. Could be the alcohol heat, but it has a boldness...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

I've definitely been impressed with Green Flash..I might have to pick up the IPA and also the imperial stout that I've seen around. Not as cheap as Lagnitas but pretty reasonable prices too for bombers compared to Stone, Great Divide, etc..

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Green Flash Imperial IPA--My second Green Flash in as many days and another very good beer. This is a very hoppy with just a hint of sweet malts for balance. Lots of pine and grapefruit. The finish is again dry and very bitter. If you like less balanced and hoppier double IPAs, definitely give this ...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Green Flash Barleywine--It'll be a Green Flash week for me as I picked up a barleywine, Imperial IPA, Le Freak (Tripel/IPA)...all new to me. Last night I started a bomber of the barleywine which is definitely in the same west coast style of Bigfoot. Huge bittter hops up front. It mellows a little in...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Hoppin Frog BORIS the Crusher--Bodacious Oatmeal Russian Imperial Stout--Probably the blackest stout I've ever seen..extremely think with absolutely no head. This is one exceptional beer. The initial taste is all coffee and chocolate. There is a fair amount of bitterness but it's balanced well by so...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Port Brewing--Old Viscosity--Listed as a strong ale but is really a cross between an russian imperial stout and and old ale..Pours black and thick with very little head. Initial taste is of coffee and chocolate though a little more muted and less bitter than most imperial stouts. Backside is the mal...
