Re: Ymm, Beer!

Even more interesting is that the Green Flash beers never make it here except the West Coast IPA. No Russian River brews either. New Belgium kept all their stuff in Colorado (or at least west of St. Louis) until this spring when their session beers like Mothership Wit, 1554, Skinny Dip and Fat Tire...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

2 new saisons for me... Victory Helios--I think this is a repackaged version of V-Saison (which I never tried). One of the cheapest big beers out there at $3.50 for a bomber. Pours a hazy straw. Lot of spice with both tart and sweet citrusy notes. There is some yeast (and a decent amount of sedimen...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Palo Santo Marron-aged about 6-8 months-I woulda waited a year or more but I got "bluebeared" by this one and couldn't wait. In fact, I had 2 left from this winter and drank them both (on consecutive nights, BTW, as they are 12% ABV :D ). I believe this is even smoother now. This is an unfiltered b...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Ballast Point Big Eye IPA I know Devildeac and Bluebear have tried Ballast Point before and were impressed. I wonder what the difference is between this one and the Sculpin. Of course this is a high hopped ale, 7%ABV, very flavorful and pretty heavy. I'm feeling the pull of the fall brews for sure,...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Weyerbacher Riserva---Bit of a rarity that I surprisingly found at the store near my house. Wild ale/sour ale made with raspberries and brett and aged in oak. I have had very little experience with sours ales and was excited to try. Pours a thick reddish brown. The taste right off the bat is mouth p...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Drink 2 this month or next and cellar the other 2 for 6-12 months. I did that with a 4 pack from this winter and loved the last 2 that I drank last week. Mmmm, time for a review of "aged" PSM... Great call..I have my last of a 4 pack from last fall sitting in my fridge after spacing them out every ...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Speaking of hoppy beers, tonight I have a pair of bombers to choose from and, hopefully, compare over the weekend (won't kill one bomber tonight, let alone two). They are Avery Maharaja (obviously) and Stone Ruination IPA (which I don't think I've ever had). Looking forward to both. I think you'll ...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Founders Devil Dancer--A Triple IPA coming in at a whopping 13% ABV. Pours a dark orange/amber color. Pretty substantial malt kick up front with lots of sweet caramel tastes. This is followed by lots and lots of hoppy bitterness. The hops taste of pine but there is a boldness that also reminds me o...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Samuel Smith Stingo--Old Ale..I read about this beer a few months back and was excited to finally track it down. Stingo is a limited release aged old ale that is making it's first trip to the US this year. I'm a big old ale fan and Samuel Smith really got me started on beer sampling. This is an exce...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Oh, my word. Page 3. Shameful. Rogue Double Dead Guy Ale-bottled in 2008. Amazing bottle-neon red-can't miss this one in the beer aisle. The "base" beer, Dead Guy, is a maibock, IIRC. This is typically a lighter, floral, bready brew, like a typical bock. The Dead Guy is a bit "dirty" for lack of a ...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Victory Wild Devil Ale--per DD's recommendation, and much like bluebear, I picked up a bottle of this on Friday and split it with my dad and uncle this weekend in Steamboat Springs (during our wild ale tasting that included 16-month Avery Fifteen and 5-month Avery Brabant). I was intrigued at the i...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Eel River Triple Exultation--Old Ale--Not a bad beer by any stretch but I'm a little disappointed in my first Eel River offering. My first issue is that I wouldn't really call this an Old Ale--It's probably more of a hoppy barleywine. The beer had very little head but a lot of carbonation. Very bitt...
