Re: Ymm, Beer!

Founder's Imperial Stout-I must give credit for this selection to bluebear or rmd. Had my first one last evening. Delicious. A slightly oily, viscous pour nearly black in color with a modest tan head. I am shocked at the IBU of 90 as I thought the heavy doses of chocolate, caramel and probably blac...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Ommegang Adoration--One of two new offerings from Ommegang this fall (the other being a Tripel)..This one is a strong dark ale/winter warmer. Corked 750ml bottle. Pours a deep amber brown with a medium head. Taste is all malt. Lots of sweet carmel malts and candied fruit. A fairly substantial bready...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Have you seen any of the barrel-aged Old Rasputin? If so, did/will you purchase any? I saw some at Total Wine and refused to buy it at $21 for a 16.9 ounce bottle. :(( :(( Finally saw this today and must admit sheepishly :ymblushing: :ymblushing: that I blew essentially my entire weekly beer "allow...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

My brother in law is in Belgium and I am hoping that he was only lying when he emailed me that he hasn't been able to get any Westvleteren to bring back for me...but I've been drinking belgian beers all week anyway in tribute.. First up was Orval--Outside of Westy, this is the only one of the trappi...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

More importantly, in the coming week or so, I'll have a mini-vertical tasting review of Avery's Old Jubilation Winter Ale. This is an unspiced winter ale (I believe Lavabe will appreciate that, much like I do). It's only cellarable for 2 years, and I only have a bottle of 2008 and 2009, but nonethe...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Otter Creek Imperial Stout..I haven't tried too many beers from Otter Creek (Vermont) but this was given a glowing review by the beer guy at a local store, so I grabbed one. Pours a dark brown, nearly black with very little head. Up front, the taste is dominated by dark chocolate..so much that it se...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Sorry I'm late with this one. The winner of the 10/3 Brunchgate beer tasting was the Allagash Four. This is named for the fours: 4 malts, 4 hops, 4 sugars and 4 fermentations. A Belgian style quadruple ale with the malts giving us the caramel-like sweetness to go along with the varied candi (sic) s...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

I lied. I told CB&B I'd review this tomorrow but I just couldn't wait. Here's the brewery info: http://www.flyingdogales.com/Beer-Specialty-Gonzo.aspx Here's my layman's review. I gotta admit that I started out my with my impression of the Flying Dog brews to be less than stellar. I am gradually ch...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Hoptober-New Belgium-Great name. Fine ale. A trader with CB&B. I refused to buy a 12 pack of this at Harris Teeter last week so I'm real glad I traded for this one. Five hops: Centennial, Cascade, Sterling, Willamette and Glacier. These make a nice blend of very mild grapefruit zest and floral arom...

BD feels compelled to point out that Lester, Buchholz, and Papelbon are homegrown. But then again, so is Delcarmen. Along with Bard, Ellsbury, Pedroia, and Youkilis... As compared to Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Pettitte, Cano, Cabrera (the man you now love to hate), Gardner, Chamberlain, Hughes, Kennedy...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

I don't think I have ever tasted it. I just think about SN for the PA/IPA type brews. I have had the porter and stout in the distant past, also. Re: Ymm, Beer!

Sierra Nevada Estate Harvest Ale--I suppose you could consider this an IPA but whatever it is, it's good. Pours a deep amber with a fairly substantial head. Pine and citrus hops up front but muted by solid malt backbone..some lingering hop bitterness in the finish. This is one of the most balanced b...
