Re: Ymm, Beer!
Sam Adams Stony Brook Red--Sam Adams has come out with 3 barrel aged beers in corked 750 ml bottles. I grabbed 2 of them on friday--the Stony Brook Red (wild ale) and a Tripel. Funky long necked bottles. The Stony Brook pours a red amber with a slight head. Taste is really dominated by lots of both...

not to rip off the band-aid or anything.... http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20091113/SPORTS/91113005/Harrison-Barnes-will-play-college-basketball-at-North-Carolina After the announcement, a picture of Williams and Barnes, wearing a North Carolina No. 40 jersey, appeared on the screen. Re: Ymm, Beer!
Southern Tier Old Man--Could be the first Southern Tier beer that I've tried. Billed as an Old Ale. Pours a fairly dark amber with a small head. Starts off with a lot of sweet caramel malts. Comes off as almost too sweet given the beers relative thinness. Beneath the malts is a fairly hefty pine hop...

You might try to find a 750 ml bottle of Le Freak, the Green Flash hybrid between an American IIPA and Belgian Tripple. It clocks in at 101 IBU and 9.2% ABV. I have 1 bottle I'll enjoy soon and the 2nd I'll cellar for a year or two (I hope). Le Freak is very good...Green Flash also makes a nice Bar...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Now wait a second, we had an INDIA PALE ALE, what is the difference between a PALE ALE and BARLEYWINE? CB&B, I think I slipped a HIGH SEAS into your 6'r because I paid attention! I still want to brew some RED ALE and EAT some of that BBQ or RIBS! :D The primary difference, IMO, is that a barleywine...

Bump bump.. Port Brewing Santa's Little Helper--2008 vintage..I managed to hold off trying this until the 2009 came out (though it helped that I bought this in the spring after primary stout season)..This is another excellent imperial stout. Pours thick like black mud. No head at all. A nice blend o...

Otter Creek Quercus Vitis Humulus--The third of their imperial series along with an RIS and DIPA..Apparently, they will be having a box of all three for the holidays..A barleywine with sauvignon blanc grapes and champagne yeast and then aged in oak. Pours a nice amber color, a bit darker than I was ...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
That is a nice find..I've never seen that up here...only their RIS and non-imperial type beers. Sounds great..I'll keep my eye out for this one.. I gathered from their web site that this is a new addition in May, 2009 to their imperial series with the RIS being their 1st. There will be another rele...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout 2009 edition hit the shelves of Total Wine last week and is released this year in 4 packs. Now I'll have to buy 3 of these suckers instead of two 6ers :D . Still one of my favorite all-time beers going on about 10 years now. A typical imperial stout with 6 malts and l...
Re: The Flu
No they didn't talk about giving it to me. We're just getting me the seasonal flu vax when I go back. He did say that Duke has some H1N1 for high-risk. He thought that Katie at under two and with a family history of asthma and her own reactive airway issues she's had would qualify. But he's not her...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
As promised a little over a week ago, tonight I finally did my mini-vertical of Avery's Old Jubilation winter ale. Old Jubilation is Avery's winter seasonal, available from September through December. It also has one of my very favorite labels: http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/68.jpg The beer is ...

I'll offer this one as the 1000th post in this thread: Keelhauler Scotch Ale-Full Sail Brewing Company-Great but sad story here. I brought this $3 bomber (no typo-3 bucks!) back directly from the brewery after a tour in March when we returned after Dad's death and just got around to sharing it with...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Otter Creek IIPA-Quite a find here by 8-x ! A monster I2PA I had never heard of before. A blend of 4 hops for an intense grapefruity nose and taste which is fairly well-balanced with 6 malts, including, somewhat surprisingly, some wheat malt. This one will indeed turn your tongue upside down and ar...

Bruery Hottenroth..my first beer by the Bruery which produces some pretty unique beers. I have their autumn maple which is made with yams sitting on my shelf for thanksgiving. The Hottenroth is a listed as a berliner weisse which I had never heard of before buying. Comes in a nice 750ml bottle. Pou...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Great DIvide Hibernation---2006 vintage..a store near me was selling these off for $2 each which seemed pretty cheap for a 3 year old cellared beer. The store is pretty reputable so I was confident that this was well taken care of during its aging (though at only 8%, it seemed like a risk for extend...

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Second in a series, but NOT consumed on the same night: Harpoon Leviathan-Not to be confused with your standard Harpoon ales. This one is a monster. An IIPA with a huge hop presence. The IBU is listed at 122! It tastes it, too with a buncha different hops which explode into flavors of pine, flowers...
