Re: Ymm, Beer!

Victory Hop Wallop--Might have reviewed this one in the past but a new batch has made its way up to this area and I grabbed a 6 pack pack which I cracked open last night. Pours a nice dark straw color. Huge hop kick with lots of pine and grapefruit. Bitter bite throughout but crisp and refreshing. ...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

I have also seen the Ommegang Biere de Mars in a 750 ml bottle. About $16. I passed. I like their stuff. A lot. But not at ~$8/12.7 ounce serving. :(( :(( Great list though. Thanks for sharing. $16 for a 750 is out of my price range as well. I had their Adoration this year and it was about $10 for ...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Tomorrow I may post about my experience with Ommegang. Or Hennepin. Or Three Philosophers. Or Rare Vos. Or Chocolate Indulgence. ;) :D Looks like a big year upcoming for Ommegang. Don't know how available these beers will be but they have a whole new lineup coming out.. Jan-Feb 2010: Ommegang Choco...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Dog Fish Head Olde School Oh hell yes. What a funky beer this is, it's the closest we can legally get to the 120 here in NC, and you can get an idea of what the 120 is when you taste it. 15%ABV, syrupy thck, and very sweet. I described it in Section 21 as "grapey". Such an interesting flavor, thoug...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Ithaca Old Habit--A rye old ale partially aged in rye whiskey barrels---Big 750ml bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a huge head. The bottle was a gusher which I thought was my fault but I've since read is common for this beer. Some sweeter caramel malts up front but nicely muted by a subtle wh...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Left Hand Oak Aged Widdershins This ale didn't soften the blow of tonight's loss much..but it still deadens the senses. This seems to be the brewing rage lately, and I don't really buy the concept. What they are doing is combining two ales, in this case 25% is brewed in "oak brandy casks". Ok..grea...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Troegs Nugget Nectar--a bit of a hybrid between an amber ale and a double IPA..Pours a deep orange. Big hit of hoppy bitterness up front with lots of grapefruit and pine. Malty sweetness is subtle but adds a perfect bit of balance. Finish is again all hops with a lingering bitter bite. Crisp and ref...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Czar-Avery's imperial stout-fascinating brew. Typical imperial stout characteristics with a very dark brown pour and aromas and tastes of licorice and molasses. Also flavors of bittersweet chocolate with an IBU of 70 and an ABV of 10.77% (that's what is on the bottle folks...) Also tastes like ther...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

MSN has an article on winter brews, and a reviews of a select few. Mad Elf looks way intriguing. http://cityguides.msn.com/articles/cityarticle.aspx?cp-documentid=19546648 Some very good beers on that list with Hibernation being my personal favorite..I buy enough of it this time of year to stretch ...

Re: 2009 NFL Thread

Well..Steelers might as well get out the golf clubs, they need three other teams to lose since Houston won. I wonder what the response is like in Boston, as the team that lost to Houston, New England, also lost to injury one of its big-name players, Wes Welker. Will he play in their next game? What...

What are people drinking to usher in the new year? It is doubtful that I will make it up until midnight but I will soon be cracking open a Bruery Papier..an old ale that I've been sitting on since the summer...happy new year to all..

Re: Ymm, Beer!

Instead of going to the Great Divide event tonight I chose to come home and walk the dog in the rain/snow :|. My reward was a first taste of Avery's duganA IIPA. This beer has been described as a more sessionable cousin to the Maharaja IIPA. Well, call me old fashioned, but I like the Maharaja bett...

Hey rmd and bluebear, tonight is vertical session tonight at the devildeac household. On deck will be: 1. Bigfoot 2005 and 2006 2. Samichlaus 2004 and 2006 (I have no idea where 2005 went. I remember the brewery changing hands/ownership several years ago and a year when they did not brew it, even c...

Re: Ymm, Beer!

I was in the store yesterday and came across Brooklyn Black Ops and Goose Island Bourbon County Stout..both bourbon aged imperial stouts. I've been looking for Black Ops but couldn't pull the trigger at $25 for a 750ml bottle..I did snag the BCS at half the price which is still pricey but more palat...
