Don't let the nutjobs know about this. They'll start sending around email forwards about how this is going to cause massive earthquakes and floods and volcanoes and the world will end.

Re: Disaster In Japan
One other thing I just learned - only certain radioisotopes can be removed from the body using a chelating agent. Others will remain until the body naturally processes them. Radioactive cesium can be removed, but radioactive iodine cannot. That's why people are given potassium iodide ahead of an acc...

Re: Disaster In Japan
So I talked a bit more to my dad. Here are a few points to consider. There are several different types of radiation emitted from the reactor. Alpha, Beta, X- and Gamma rays in particular. Alpha rays are ionized Helium nuclei and the others are all different types of photons (electromagnetic radiatio...

So my dad's an environmental project manager for a company that builds power plants, including nukes. Here's an excerpt from an email he just sent me: An update on the nei site talks about radiation of 40 rem/hr. A worker in the nuclear industry is only allowed to get a dose of 3.5 rem per quarter. ...

Re: Favorite take out Chinese soup
By the way...I want to open up the coolest buffet restaurant ever. It will have Chinese, Mexican, and American foods. I will call it Juan Ton Smith's. :chef: There's a place just like that in RTP. I think it's called Mr. Wok. Racks and racks of Chinese foods. Tacos, taquitos, crayfish, quesadillas,...

Re: Disaster In Japan
Heard from one classmate of mine who has lived over there for a few years and she's ok. Sounds like Tokyo isn't damaged too badly, but none of the trains are running, so getting around is kind of difficult.

Sounds good Wilson. I'm going with Giada DeLaurentiis' basil pesto. Penne rigate. Grilled chicken (marinated in a lemon/wine vinegar/garlicky mix).

Re: TUMS Question
The fruity Tums are pretty tasty. I happily crush them when heartburn rears its ugly head. I have heartburn so bad every day (history of stomach problems) that Tums and the like do absolutely nothing for me. I could eat a bottle without it helping much at all. I take a pill each morning though that...

Re: NASCAR 2011
So the end of this week was pretty crazy for us so I ALSO didn't change my 8 guys for qualifying. I did go in and adjust my lineup before the race, just moving last weeks backups to starters. If I had left Edwards in there instead of replacing him with Kurt I coulda won bigger!

Re: Big Changes
If this is a change you welcome and have been wishing for, may God bless you and your family in the decision. I hope you will be very happy. You never get too far away from those here. :9f: It is. A lot of things I'll miss about North Carolina, but i'll be wonderful to spend more time with my family.
