Fortunately of late it's looking less like Gasprailla and more like Military Bowl. I can't, of course, get anywhere very far from Georgia during Christmas, but I'd be glad because half of everyone from Duke lives around DC.
Yes, Duke would have a much better fan presence there. (Bob Green will be in the front row!), but since I'm not going either way, I'd selfishly rather Duke play in a better bowl that they earned against a better opponent.
It would be interesting to ask the coaches and players which they'd prefer. "Do you want a louder crowd, or do you want to play in a higher tier game?"

Truly, in the long run, I'll take whatever, since this debate wasn't even in my mind 3 months ago.
We're always up against the same thing here, which is we're a small school that doesn't really travel, so the bowls will jump someone one game worse in the standings over us every single time, unless maybe it's Wake Forest.

Are you in Georgia these days? I had it in my head that you were in St. Louis for some reason.

Also some rumblings about Duke vs Oregon or Oregon State in the Sun Bowl or even a return trip to the Belk, err, Duke Mayo Bowl in Charlotte.

I think we had around 20K fans at the Belk Bowl in 2012 and about the same number at the Peach Chicken Bowl in 2013. I'll guess we had 5K fans in El Paso (ask OPK about that game and # of fans) and I'd venture probably 20K attend the Pinstripe Bow.

UCF is an excellent opponent. While the bowl isn't as high up there as others we were in consideration for, I like the fact that Duke should represent well in the stands (Bob will have lots of people to high five with!) and that we are playing against a really good team. It sets up for an enjoyable game.
I'll be watching from my couch, but that day has a big X on my calendar! :happy-bouncyblue: :duke:

Two common opponents:

UCF 27, Georgia Tech 10; Duke 20, Georgia Tech 23
UCF 70, Temple 13; Duke 30, Temple 0

HA! I will be whipping up something in my backyard, but that's a longer walk than from the parking lot. ;)

ESPN's take on the game.
First-year Duke coach Mike Elko took a team that went 3-9 (0-8 in ACC play) last season and guided it to a bowl for the first time since 2018. Both teams are solid on defense, and while UCF has an edge offensively with athletic quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, if healthy, Duke should be much more motivated to play. The Elko-Gus Malzahn coaching matchup should be fun, but Duke rallies in the fourth quarter behind dual-threat QB Riley Leonard.

Prediction: Duke 36, UCF 33

Green Family tickets have been purchased. Duke ticket office said either Section 2 or 3. That’s lower level between 10 and 30 yard lines.

I’m excited. We didn’t attend any previous bowl games so this is a first for us.

Section 3, Row 29, Seats 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Game Day weather report is shaky. Cold (32 - 38) with 8% chance of precipitation. No mention of snow unlike yesterday when the forecast said snow flurries.

Military Bowl uniform is white helmet with Iron D, blue jersey, white pants. We wore this combination in the Week 1 victory over Temple.
