I started my garden today by planting seeds in peat pots and small containers. They are sitting outside in the warm sun but I’ll bring them inside overnight.

There is lots of work to do in my two plots before I can plant in the ground. I grow stuff in the ground and in pots.

Hopefully, there will be lots of pictures posted here over the summer.

We like to garden at the lake house but don’t really know when we will get up there. I bought 8 tomato plants and wound up with 14. They are now in larger pots. I also bought 4 cucumber plants and have 9. I’ll get more tomato plants before we go to the lake.

We’re going to plant potatoes today. Back in the day planting started Easter Monday. Easter is early this year. Think we will wait until the week after to plant tomatoes, cucumbers and jalapeños. We are going to go ahead and plant vegetable seeds. I did plant herbs in large pots on the deck. They are easy to cover if necessary.

I started green beans from seed and have them growing in peat pots. I plan to transplant them after Easter.

I saw tiniest praying mates I have ever seen on the deck. It wasn’t and inch long. I didn’t have my phone with me. I went to get it but it was no where to be seen. I’ll keep checking to try and see it again and hopefully get a picture.

Eggplant seedlings are starting to pop up. I had about given up on them. My green bean plants are looking good. I plan to grow them for another 8 - 10 days before transplanting.

Tomato plants are doing good. Potatoes are too. Herbs on the deck are thriving.

There is a freeze warning for Southeastern Virginia tonight. Frustrating! I will move plants in pots into my garage and/or storage shed but stuff in the ground will be difficult to protect.

We have frost this morning. I covered the herbs on the deck with fleece. Bud covered everything in the garden with shredded paper. I really hope the garden makes it. Especially the 24 tomato plants.

Here is a picture of a yellow squash plant with lemon grass in front of it. You can also see okra popping up:

I really wish I had put in a garden this year, when all the stay at home orders started. Sadly, now it’s a bit too late. Fresh lettuce would be so good, but I’d have a heckuva battle keeping the rabbits out of it.

Nicely done! Congratulations!

Back when I was a kid, some new neighbors (retirees) moved in a couple of miles down the road from us. They were from the city (Boston, maybe). At the monthly community potluck dinner, the wife tried several zucchini dishes that she really liked. So, the next year, when they planted a garden, they planted a ROW of zucchini. It grew very well. As you might imagine, they had more than enough zucchini.

I planted two more plants in pots this morning a second zucchini and a Sun Sugar yellow cherry tomato. My okra plants are starting to get some size to them. I have 46 with about half up over a foot tall so I’m optimistic when the July/August heat arrives I will have plenty of okra pods to harvest and eat. :ymparty:

You can keep all your okra but I'd gladly accept some zucchini and/or cherry tomatoes, or, any home grown tomatoes for that matter.

I will bring some home grown tomatoes to tailgate for you but it might be in 2021. :( No okra? Hmm, you must be from New Jersey. :D
