I'm relieved to know/learn that you survived the VT/LU football game today.Nrrrrvous wrote: ↑November 7th, 2020, 7:27 pmLove it! I don’t think I’m going to check. It might ruin the good vibe I got going on right now.devildeac wrote: ↑November 7th, 2020, 7:30 pmI'm relieved to know/learn that you survived the VT/LU football game today.Nrrrrvous wrote: ↑November 7th, 2020, 7:27 pmLove it! Rest in Peace, Alex Trebec.
Hosting Jeopardy would be one of my dream jobs, and I loved watching Jeopardy growing up.

Re: LTE 2.0
One of my college teachers was on Jeopardy; he wasn't allowed to tell us the outcome before anything aired. He won three nights.
As a tribute on Facebook, he posted this earlier today.
A tribute to Alex Trebek.
It's weird: when you've been on the show, the first thing people ask you is "What's Alex Trebek like?" I didn't know; he had a cold the day we shot my shows and minimized contact.
I do think I had a good idea what he *stood for*, though, and what the cultural position of the show has been, if that's not too pretentious a way to put it. That's why I wrote about the show for "Art issues" not long after appearing on it.
JEOPARDY! was the antithesis of The Apprentice and Alex Trebek epitomized everything that Donald Trump despises: respect for learning, a fair chance for everyone, a belief in winning through merit rather than cheating, fun and wit, a bit of dignity and courtesy.
And nice clothes.

I don't know whether you can see the essay linked here on academia.edu; if there's another way to post a pdf here, let me know, please.

Re: LTE 2.0
Just a quick request to keep Mandalorian talk in its own thread, please. I'm not caught up yet. I stopped reading this thread when I saw it mentioned so as to avoid possible spoilers.

Done. I moved all of the Mando comments to the new thread, including some spoiler free ones, just to reduce the temptation of commenting and spoiling something here.
You can now go back to enjoying this thread, and talking about Baby Yoda spoiler free.

Today I learned that I can write in the comment box with my Apple Pencil, and it gets converted to typing. Total game changer.

I'm a fan. It recognizes my left-handed chicken scratch. Siri, OTOH, is incapable of understanding me.ArkieDukie wrote: ↑November 10th, 2020, 8:40 amToday I learned that I can write in the comment box with my Apple Pencil, and it gets converted to typing. Total game changer.

Same here. My favorite BBT episode is one in which Kripke (sp?) complained that Siri couldn't understand him.lawgrad91 wrote: ↑November 10th, 2020, 9:18 amI'm a fan. I'm really happy that we have another wave of members due to problems OY. Reminds me of how this board started in the first place. Do we name the two waves First Exodus and Second Exodus?

Re: LTE 2.0
Ozzie's high school might be getting a new student.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/pivot-palm-b ... 06984.htmlEarlier this month, People reported that Melania was checking out South Florida schools while renovations were underway at the private residence at Mar-a-Lago. The Palm Beach resort is Mom and Dad’s warm-weather spread. The couple filed their “declaration of domicile” from New York to Florida last year.
Pine Crest, a private K-12 school, sounds on brand for the Trumps.

The fact that he lives 30 miles south isn't a problem. When I was there (1970-1972), Ben Novak was a year behind me. Benjie's dad owned the Fountain Blue hotel in Miami and they lived in the Penthouse. One day they were running late and traffic on I-95 was bad, so Benjie showed up in their helicopter. True story.
