As with all TGs, we’ll have two threads posted prior to game day. One will be the “SD (Social Discussion) Thread”, and one will be the “M&A (Menu & Attendance) Thread”. It is your choice to post in the SD, but participation in the M&A is asked of all, since that is the place to let the chefs know if you are planning on coming, how many will be with you, and if you are bringing anything to the table (literally). The SD thread is for everything else about game day.
With that being said, this is the first Social Discussion thread of 2021! There are couple big announcements, starting with Duke’s new game day policies. Full details can be found at this link,
https://goduke.com/news/2021/8/25/footb ... jMmkrUOInA
but the highlights are that Duke now has a clear bag policy, is going cashless for concessions, and will be serving alcohol inside the stadium. On the face, it sounds promising, so I’m crossing fingers!
The second thing to bring up is that while happily we fans are allowed back in to the games, COVID isn’t done with us yet. Hopefully you are vaccinated. With the age range of our membership, we can’t stress enough how important it is for everyone to feel comfortable at our tent site. And of course, it seems that Delta isn’t as picky to ages as this pandemic started out, so the young folks in our group are seemingly just as much at risk as everyone else.
None of this has anything to do with politics. Regardless of your leanings, we ask that if you are not vaccinated that you wear a mask when you are not actively eating or drinking. Even if you are vaccinated, it’s still not the worst suggestion to put one on, especially within the close confines underneath the tents. (I’m vaccinated, and we’ve begun to make it a habit to mask back up going into larger and more crowded stores.)
If you are feeling sick on game day, please stay home. We’ll miss you, but we’ll also appreciate your respect of the greater good of the group. I’ll try to make sure that we have a box of masks included with our supplies. I'm ending this with some good info that was posted OY concerning vaccines and masks. Many wonder since a vaccinated person can still get COVID, then what's the difference in masking.
https://yourlocalepidemiologist.substac ... vaccinated"Bottom Line: Vaccines continue to help on the individual-level: they keep you out of the hospital. They also continue to help on a population-level: You play less of a role in the transmission chain than unvaccinated. If and when a vaccinated person is contagious, it’s for less amount of time compared to unvaccinated (6 days vs. 18 days). This will no doubt help end the pandemic. But, even given this, we all still need to wear our masks to stop transmission at every corner."
The last announcement is specific to our first game only. Tim has decided that his family is much more important than the rest of you, and is joining them while they all go dip their toes in the waters of the Outer Banks. So selfish of him! I will still have my large grill to cook up everything, but I’m asking that you really make sure to post in the M&A once I get it up since I’m going to be trying hard to make the serving experience as efficient as possible.
I can’t wait to see everyone! LGD!!!
